Rough Ryder? arrrgh damnnnn it

Argh oh please help me #3.

So the car idles and shit and timing apparently is aok. Only problem is that it idles roughly and it runs roughly. Not super mega rough but it burbles like it's fucking cammed and it's not.

Stock cams, hydra, runs the same, rough, no matter what the AFRs are, no matter what rpm, no matter what load. AFRs are ok, all sensors appear to be reading properly. Runs rough warm or cold, all the same.

WTH?

I'm pretty damn sure I have spark on all 4 cylinders since it doesn't sound like a freight train anymore.

Any ideas of shit to check?

This is for my 03. If I don't get this shit together I won't be able to run at my own dyno day and many tears will be shed. by me :(

Oh yah, and this is with my hated hydra 2.6. Spider sense says this is not a hydra issue though.

vvt is in full retard?

timing is above 10 BTDC at idle?

AFR is between 13 and 14.7?

Faeflora 04-03-2010 09:26 AM

Yes to timing above idle and yes to afr.

No to vvt. Unpluggong the solenoid will lock full retard right?

Pull spark plugs / coil plugs one at a time while it's running. See if it affects idle.

And if one doesn't affect idle it is fu'd correct?

Could this also be caused by old gas? My car was sitting wiht the gascap off in my garage for the past 5 months.

If there's no difference then that means there's no spark. The motor will get visibly worse when you stop one cylinder from igniting.

And yes, it's possible it could be old gas.

Its got about 2 gallons left in there. Drain? Or fill. I hope not drain.

thymer 04-03-2010 01:36 PM

Gas cap off? You got some serious moisture in that tank bro. The lazy side of me says to fill 'er up..

y8s 04-03-2010 02:31 PM

unplugging VVT means full retard (ie "safe mode")

Faeflora 04-03-2010 05:32 PM

Welp the problem was fixed by filling the tank up with fresh 93oct shell. Now it idles decntly smotohly and runs decently. The engine still osunds like shit though, like it is knocking- well like something either top or bottom end was knocking. I don't lke it so I left the car at the buikder for the weekend. I did drive it around a while though and pulled 30in of vacuum a bunch on 5psi max.

It idles around 18inches but maybe thatwill get better with time?
