S13 240SX throttle body on a 1.6

3 Attachment(s)
I met a guy at a meet last week who is making 300hp running a 1.6 engine at 23psi.

He's using the throttle body from an S13 Silvia. He said that the top bolts line up perfectly with the NA6 plenum and just require new holes drilled at the bottom.

He couldn't remember if it was off the SR20DET or the SR20DE and thought there was a difference in size between the NA and the turbo engine's TB.

He also ended up using the IACV from an RB26 since the SR20 TB is a different setup. Anyone done this mod? I couldn't find anything searching online...

Because it's a bigger TB than stock and much cheaper than the Skunk with little modification needed (from what he said).

I'm interested to know if anyone has done it and if it was worth it.

why in the world would you want a bigger tb that doesn't fit?

you're gonna need to provide a proper thought process here, so far you sound really stupid, and this sounds like a dumb idea.

we've made 360whp on a stock 1.6 miata throttle body. at 21psi (if that even matters). why do you need bigger?

you should do something useful, like replace that crappy engine with a 1.8 rather than wasting time/money replacing something that's not broken and not a restriction

From what I understand is that it lines up with the plenum just with a slightly different bolt pattern that only requires two holes drilled.

The thought process was to ask here to see if it is worth upgrading the TB like this guy. Also I thought it was an interesting, rare (with good reason it seems!) upgrade. Your response is helpful although, I feel, unnecessarily aggressive!

Nice! I was aware (although may be wrong) that the larger TB made more power at high rpm on bored/stroked NA miatas and was wondering if it made more power on a turbo setup.

This isn't my car but I'll pass on the advice if I run into him again.

The 1.8 is something I'm considering for my own car but there's plenty to read about that without making a new thread! Lol

the gains are laughable too.
see my recent thread about testing a skunk2 tb, which is much better than the junk that guy is using

......after all was said and done, we gained 1hp

one

he didnt make any of the power from the TB. that was an overly complicated and pointless mod.

a 1.6L should be able to make 300rwhp at around 18-20psi.

if you look at the rest of the craptastic setup, it makes sense

The boost solenoid plumbing looks interesting.

This looks interesting at least. I have a friend with a spare one laying around, going to look into it. It appears to be 60-65mm in diameter, which is at least worth the inquiry, IMO.
