Some of you may have seen the link in my sig, or sean’s but this is a public announcement of a project that started as a joke and seems to have actually created something useful. Our focus is on openness and sharing innovation and designs, and we are not in this for profit at all, just to advance the development of DIY and affordable products for the miata. We aren’t here to compete with vendors, and if any vendor feels that we are being harmful please let me know. Our goal isn’t to hurt any business, but to enable the average DIYer to create cool stuff.

What is SADFab:

Shitty ass design fab. kidding. It started as a joke in my thread @hi_im_sean, @aidandj, @deezums fabrication. (Name credit to sean: https://www.miataturbo.net/build-thr...4/) It has turned into a community effort to design affordable parts for the Miata. We will sell some of the parts that we design, but for the most part we will just be sharing designs. If you visit the website you can see that everything we* do is open source and available for download.

SADFab Designs

This announcement came about because we actually have a product to sell now. As shown in Sean’s bushing thread we are now making and selling delrin bushing kits, and bronze bearing conversion kits for poly bushings. These are not proprietary, all of the dimensions are posted on our site and anyone can make them if they want. But if you just want the easy button email us or PM me/sean and we will make it happen.

Head over to the bushings thread to read more about the delrin bushings, or the bronze conversion kits. Then contact us if you want in.

I will update this thread with any new projects we throw together or anything fun that happens. If you have any designs that you want to share, or add to the SADFab umbrella let me know and we can add them to the website (with credit for you of course). We want to create a repository of useful designs and files that anyone can use.

*brake brackets are not open source because they were not designed by us. We may try and work something out in the future with those.

**We are not a vendor, and we are not responsible for anything that happens because you used our designs

Please tell me you are way undercutting the established market price for those derrrrlin door bushings.

aidandj 02-01-2016 07:32 PM

As of now we just plan on supplying dimensions (which were not measured from any existing products for the record)

Our goal isn't to undercut anyone, but provide details of our own projects for others to recreate.

Nope, we are going to keep this thread sad and leave it here.

sixshooter 02-02-2016 10:30 AM

I was thinking it was short for Sadistic Fabrication. Somewhat disappoint.

Only because SADomasochist Fabrication sounds a little too kink.

Monk 02-02-2016 10:33 AM

For whom?
I think it's right at home for the intended audience.

you should convert your sldprt's to xt

x_25 02-02-2016 02:46 PM

Asterisk number two, ARE should be OUR...

Otherwise, excuse me while I go check out the site. Taking measurements is the part I hate most about designing...

Hopefully I can contribute something worth sharing in the future.

Alternative 02-02-2016 09:31 PM

So you are or are not selling Delrin bushings?

Sean told me earlier in the week he was too busy.

aidandj 02-02-2016 09:36 PM

They are for sale. PM sean or email info@sadfab.com

aidandj 02-02-2016 10:04 PM

Dimensions are also posted:

Too busy to ship something out immediately, no stock on shelves, but I am taking orders.

aidandj 02-05-2016 06:49 PM

We had a request for spherical bearings in locations other than the upper rear outer.

Because we already have all the dimensions we will draw up designs for all the locations.

They will be special order though because we are all too poverty to run them there, and we believe most other people will be too.

Contact us for pricing.

I know this is a long shot but any chance you guys would do non miata fabrication?

I went to a local machine shop and they quoted 400 per side. The guy that made those said he could do a set for under 300 but hes really backed up for like 6 months. There are a few other festiva guys that want a set also. Could maybe get a group buy going on them.

psyber_0ptix 02-09-2016 08:06 AM

Whoa, that's interesting. Have a pic of the entire assembly and where this is placed?

They go between the spindle and knuckle(spindle is 4 bolt flange that bolts to the knuckle), so they actually point the spindle up or forward/backwards for more camber and toe.

Need a drawing or at least decent dimensions.

psyber_0ptix 02-09-2016 08:34 AM

They won't slide with enough force and vibration, or is there a knurl that's put on the surface or anything?

4 large blots clamp it together, also retained in all directions except rotation by the slots, and im guessing that center bore registers on a shoulder on the knuckle or spindle.

My only concern is that it forces the bolts to clamps non parallel surfaces, which is really bad, especially for something that holds your wheel and hub assy. on the car. I hope they use spherical(self leveling) washers with those.

The Effect on the Fatigue Life of Bolts of Joint Face Angularity

Follow the fatigue life graph to 3.5 degrees :) Im not sure how much of an issue this is in practice though, since im sure these are already being used somewhere.

curly 02-09-2016 09:59 AM

Are you talking about something similar to these?

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/we...3a1a700ced90ae

Kinda a slammed thing, but could be put to use. Rear camber on a FWD car shouldn't really be the priority IMO though...

Your link goes to a Paypal checkout.

B6Tfastiva 02-09-2016 11:00 AM

advancedynamix (I think he's a member on here also) has made several sets of these and tracks his car regularly with no problems. The spindles get reamed and tapped for 7/16 hardware so the bolt size is increased also. These cars only weigh 1800ish and roughly 60 of the weight is up front.

I'll try to come up with a drawing with measurements. I could also just send you a spindle to pull dimensions off of if that would be easier.

18psi 02-09-2016 11:14 AM

dem cambered spaecers doe

I could totally see them working too, since the cars they will go on will never successfully run

sadfab - Are you guys machining these components In-house or outsourcing designs?

I know my drawing sucks but here's the dimensions I pulled off my spindle.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1455283930

Just needs to be 3/8in thick then put a 3.5* grind on it according to my first post.

hi_im_sean 02-12-2016 03:06 PM

Are the festivas metric, or that faggy measuring system?

On center the pattern comes out to 1.528"x2.082" which is 38.8112mm x 52.8828mm, which I take to be 29x53mm..... sounds about right?

You mean 39x53? Yeah they're metric. I remeasured in mm and its coming out closer to 38.5x52.5. I'm measuring 28x42.05 with 10.43 holes. Center is 36.14

They don't have enough adjustment maybe get -1.5* out of them.

hi_im_sean 02-22-2016 08:51 AM

Well i dont have a rotary table and im not cnc capable personally. But if someone wants to model that, Id be glad to get you quotes from some of my people, and I can almost guarantee they wont be $300 each, but it obviously depends on how many you want made.

You could also buy me a rotary table and ill go at it.
