Sandwich plate issue

First oil change yesterday since purchase, and I got another surprise. A previous owner installed a sandwich plate for the aux oil temp and pressure gauges. Fine and dandy. But the moron also cut the threads on the filter mount short so that he could get a filter on, instead of just removing the IM brace :crx: Because of that, the only filter that will catch the foreshortened threads is a Mobil1 which costs 2x the price of anything else, and is only holding on by about a thread and a half at full tight which is of course my biggest concern.

Never having had one of these on a car before, I'm curious as to whether they use some sort of universal extended adapter to attach them to the block or if they are all different. If universal, or at least typical, anyone know where can I find a replacement extension that mates to the Miata block (B6)? Or am I probably stuck buying a whole new plate kit to get what I need?

Thanks.

You can buy the filter mount from Mazda and just replace it. B630-10-319, ~$10 MSRP.

Thank you.

Just so I'm being as clear as possible, I want to retain the plate. Is the stock mount likely to be long enough to pass through the plate (roughly 1" thick) yet still extend past the plate so that I can mount a filter? Just wondering aloud as all the sandwich plate kits seem to show an extended mount.

I thought that the sammich plate had it's own threads. It seems a viable solution would to get a new sandwich plate, then to get a tuna with spicy mustard to put on it.

Yeah, I'm just trying to be as cheap a bastard as possible. I'll probably end up doing that though.

May want to review the plate - my Mocal has its own internal sleeve that extends the stock filter mount out so everything works.

You know what they say about pictures....

Yeah, I just need to pull the thing off and have a better look as it sounds like it could be put together any number of ways.

Generally you have a female to male adapter. The female end screws onto the block, holding the plate on. The male end sticks out waiting for a filter. If it's a cheap eBay plate, there's a chance you just got a bad $2 part. I think I have an extra laying around somewhere you could try.

Thanks curly! I'll pull the filter off and remove the male portion that's been cut so I can get a picture/measurements up. I'd be surprised if it's not a cheapo ebay plate.
