seats!
made by Konig. I have seen them other places for around 250-300 a peice.
anyone ever tried them? think they would work? http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c....category.14/.f |
Someone on M.net bought a pair (They aren't certified for prof. racing). I've considered the Buzz, but it's not at the top of the list.
|
would they let you use them in SCCA?
I think I might buy one to see if I like it just for shits and giggles |

cool, I dont think I will ever be racing on a road course, though I would like to go for a spin on the miller motorsports track they just built a couple towns over.
it doesnt look like those come with sliders?? you would have to get a multi point safety belt with those too? |
oh well after reading the thread on m.net I think I will let the girlie buy me one for my birthday, and I will just buy the other..
thanks brain |
Were do these girlies pop up from? My friends car was practicly funded by his girlie. must be nice lol.

the konig v-racing seats are actually made by Cobra i believe. So it should be good quality. But without an FIA rating i wouldnt want to be in one if you crash.
|
Yeah, they are Cobras. The were goign to partner up and sell them, but it fell through and now they are just getting rid of them cheap.
Actually I think they got the rating, and then it was taken away? Not sure. But they are just not certififed by a particular group for a particular purpose. It's not like OEM seats are FIA cert. |
yeah the seats say cobra all over them, I didnt get to trying to put them in last night, I will after work though.
and they did have the FIA cert, some of the guys on m.net show a picture of the FIA cert on the bottom. it rained for almost a week straight so my car is dirty! plus there is alot of construction near my work, thats why it is so dusty.... after work today I am going to take a shot at putting them in... I dont think it will be hard to do. |
sweet let me know becuase I've been considering them for a while.
|
they look a lot better in your pcitures than they do on the site...hmmm

this is the guy on m.net that has them in his car. http://forum.miata.net/vb/showpost.p...8&postcount=92 |
They look good. I have been in the market for a set and I just may go with these. Let us know how they fit and what you end up doing for sliders. Thats cool to know they are made by cobra...I love the cobra seat in my Spec Miata.
Also, where did you end up getting them from? |
you can bolt the original sliders on with a little fab work...

I started putting them in ast night and took a bunch of pics. I didnt get them in because I had to go to bed, I will have them in tonight though. the install will be easy, I spent about 10 bucks on stuff from lowes. |
ok they are in!
they werent that hard to put in... as you can see it took two peices of flat metal per seat.... I broke a cobalt drill bit in three places and almost killed my dad in the process, but I think they turned out pretty good... ya I know my garage is dirty.... and I know my car is still dirty.... here are the pics... http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v201/bikernicz/miata/ that is me dressed like a ghostbuster... let me know what you think... glad to answer any/all questions... |
How would a larger buy fit into these seats? Are they a pretty slim fit?

Jay my dad is a pretty big guy (about 6' 5" 250lbs) he fits into them with little more effort than the originals |
sweeeeet I want the red and black ones for my black miata
|
how much lower do you sit now?
I need to get my head under the roll bar. |

I mounted them on the OEM sliders though, you can bolt them to the floor, which would probably give you 3 inches or more. I'm 5' 11" and my head doesnt clear the back of the seat there is probably half an inch above it
|
by "bolt to the floor" they mean use the standard sparco mounts right?

For $80.14 shipped to my door, I could not resist. As braineack stated, double check the shipping charges b/c I ordered them separately and they cost $80.14 each x 2 = $160.28, BUT if I ordered them together, it would have been over $200 with shipping.
Anyway, not much left in terms of selection so I chose the yellow seats as the reds would make my car look too christmas-like. On a side note, my seats have Cobra tags/badging/imprints all over. They seem to be about the same in quality as the Sparco Sprints, Momo Start, and Corbeau Clubmans that I've seen. We'll see how well the fabric wears/fades. Worst case scenario, I have a couple expensive gaming chairs. :) |
does the fabric feel kinda cheap on yours?
mine feels like a sweater from wal mart... it feels like it is "friming up" with use though I am excited to see how they look in your car though! |
They should look good with the green, and match your valve cover fairly well. You guys are tempting me every day with these. My problem is that it looks like there isnt room for both a harness and OEM belts.
|
Too bad they won't ship to Canada :(
|
that's what friends in MI are for.

you can hide the belt behind the seat.. I have done this several times and not been able to find it... I think you could tuck the buckle part out of the way... not sure though... |
Ok, there is more room beside the tranny hump than I thought. I have both installed on my driver side my, and basically I swing the bucket out of the way when I run the harness. Looks like there is plenty of room with these to do the same. Does the belt sit in the right spot, or a tad high?
|
it feels like it is in the same place as it was witht he other seats... maybe a little higher but nothing noticeable
|
Since were talking about seats here. What makes bride seats so good? They sure do cost enough:eek:
|
2 pages and not 1 mention about FIA certification....... Therese seats arent gonna be so cool when they kill you
|
some of us do not fear death, there is alot about the FIA cert on the first page.

Can you show me the FIA certification on the OEM seat? |

It's almost like you didn't read the f'n thread?! :twofinger |
So, any new opinions of these seats after using them for a while. I really am considering replacing my torn stockers at that price. A local guy just put a set of the Buzz seats in his '93 that I need to sit in and try out. I like the look of the Rush better, but he said they rubbed in his car so he got the Buzz instead. How do your Rush seats fit? Any rubbing?
|
they rub on the latches for the hard top, kind of annoying, but nothing too bad, they dont make as much noise as the OEMs either, sooner or later I am going to be bolting them to the floor, I dont like being able to hit my head on the hardtop
(turns out they are higher than I thought) |
higher than stock? or are you a tall MFer?
|
they are about 1/4" higher than the stock seats I thought they were lower at first ( I think I had my hopes up)
I am 5' 10" (about average I guess) |
I've only test fitted mine as I still need to make the proper brackets and get the right hardware, and the outer wing did look like it would rub a little, but you can angle the seat a little to avoid that from my test fitting at least. I also "bent" the outer wing in a little to help out there.
As for lowering, I think you have to bolt these directly to the floor to gain any headroom over the stock w/radical foam mod. I currently still have my stock seats and can get my helmet just under the rollbar with the back and bottom foam mostly removed. In the test fitting, the helmet clearance was just ever so lower with the seat resting on the floor. I figure that brackets will add maybe 1/4"-1/2" As for safety, for most novice HPDE and all autocross, I think that these seats (as well as Sparco Sprints, Momo Starts, and Corbeau Clubmans that are all tubular frame seats) with proper race harnesses are safer and will keep you in your seat much better than the stock stuff. Certainly, if you started to get into the advanced groups pushing the limits more or considered going for a wheel to wheel racing license then better safety gear is in order. But for most of us (especially the novices who have to buy another setup for an instructor as well), we are not at a level where we need or are willing to spend close to $1000 per seat/harness (multiplied by two for the instructor side) for gear we will probably never use. |
brgracer,
What rollbar do you have in the car? And fit issues with it and the seats? |
