Want to paint valve cover black -any ideas?
Hey guys,
I want to refinish my valve cover in black before reinstalling it on the car.
What is the best type of paint that wont peel off?
I was thinking BBQ paint?
Maybe the crinkle paint if I can find it, any ideas where to purchase in Canada?

GOING TO SOUND KINDA WEIRD BUT HERE GOES:
go to advance buy a can of black engine enamel (the 1200 degree stuff if they've got it) and a can of spray on truck bed coating (for the textured..crinkle...finish)....
Clean your valve cover really well...
Do a few good coats of the engine enamel and then one thick coat of the truck bed coating after it's dry.
When the truck bed coating has set up spray a LIGHT coat of the engine enamel on top of that.
Been running mine painted this way for almost a year and im turbo so there's a good deal of heat right there at the V/C and it has held up really well.

You can get VHT products in Canada (Very High Temperature) they work very well.
I have used some 'crickle' paint on parts of my cover (Center part,spark plug area and on the Belt cover area) and it has lasted 3 years. The rest is polished.

I would not recommend the bbq grill paint. I used it all over my engine, and while it seems to hold up fine in most places, once cured it is more of a charcoal black than a deep black. It is not holding up well on my ic charge pipes.

no need for truck bed liner or engine enamal. I used just a can of wrinkle stuff from napa, wipped off the valve cover, and sprayed it on. make sure it's a warm day, or you put the valve cover under a few lamps with 100w bulbs. this is required for a good wrinkle.
it's held up for quite a while now with the turbo, although I scratched it real bad installing my heat shield.

that's why i used truck bed liner...it holds up to ALOT of **** in a truck bed doesn't it? use truck bed liner, you wont be dissapointed i've beat the hell out of that valve cover working on the car and not even a chip in it yet...

in other words...miata's don't care too much for being run off of interstates at 5:00 in the morning by semi's...and no before anyone else says it on here i wasn't trying to pull some F&F **** and go under the semi...the guy fell asleep.

I used regular wrinkle finish and a primer. I think I should have used a high temp primer, Mine flaked off in about 2 years.
