I've heard two pounds. Of course, it matters the distance out. Weight close to the hug hardly rotates. Engine weight would count for more, since you have to accelerate it 5 times in a 1/4 mile (4 times?).

Remember, it's rotational weight. There's no acceleration gain by having hub/ caliper, or control arm reductions (at least no gains over 1:1), but you will gain a lot in handling, so it's still very worth doing.

I know when I shaved 10 lb/wheel I definately felt the gains in acceleration, and the tires stuck to the ground in handlig. It's the best thing you can do.

I've got a pump, patch kit in my car. Weighs very little, plus helps me top off the tires when they are low or before a twisty road. And now I have kept the jack and lost the tire.

Or, think about this: If you'd spent $300 to lighten your car, spend the $300 on a year of cell service, and lose the tire. :-)
