Shift Knob
Hey how do I take off the stock shift knob on my 90 miata? If it's just a twist off then I'm gonna need popeyes phone number cuz my forearms just can't do it...
twist harder man!!! breaking that factory glue isnt always easy tho
remember, lefty loosey righty tighty :-D |
shoot, I will do that then... well thanks dude :)
Maybe try a strap wrench or something. That should give you better leverage without destroying the knob.
hmm what about vicegrips? or beating the ish out of it with a hammer first?
put it in like first...and just turn
sometimes its a bitch. I wouldn't destroy the knob though w/ vicegrips... |
thanks guys

I actually like how the stock knob feels in my hand when shifting. Doesn't freeze your hand or burn your hand like a metal voodoo ball does either.
May not be the best looking thing, but it does work, and well. |
Some have grub screws on them that need to be loosened.
Don't grab the knob with vicegrips, grab the shaft! Just remove the upper shift boot and slide the vicegrips in underneath it. The lower part of the shaft is about 3/4" diameter... pretty thick. That, plus less sand in your vagina will work.
put the end of the shifter in a vice on the bench, and turn the shift knob, it will take a while but it will come loose after
or stop being a punany and just twist the damn thing
get a man to loosen it for you.
