Default MSM Water Pump

I was talking to a friend who owns a Miata as well. She told me to put in the Mazdaspeed Miata water pump instead of the non-MSM because it flows more water/coolant through it. I talked to Tom at Rosenthal and he said there is no difference between the non-MSM and MSM water pumps.

Can anyone shed light onto who is correct? If the two pumps are different, does the MSM make a difference for FI applications?

Generally speaking, some girl you know with a Miata is going to have to come up with a pretty goddamn convincing argument with hard data to override Tommy, who is one of the more knowledgeable parts guys in the business.

Since you are probably not baller enough to have a Mazda Motorsports account and access to all the factory part number data that's included with achieving said baller status, I looked it up for you and the MSM uses the same water pump as a non-turbo. There are some parts of the cooling system that are different, but the water pump isn't one of them.

When it comes to car parts I tend not to listen to women with don't either A) get grease under their nails on a regular basis and/or B) own a Nomex driving suit. It might make me a chauvinist pig but I'm usually right.

Well I just purchased a Miata so I don't know everyone in the Miata business yet; so good to know about Tom. I do autocross but I haven't with a Mazda so I just up with Mazda Motorsports this past weekend; waiting on account verification at the moment. Thanks for looking up the parts, I appreciate it.

I told her about it and she clarified that it's not an OEM part, it's actually a Mazdaspeed Competition part. Did you see anything like that on the Mazdaspeed Motorsports site?

Once you get your account with Mazda Motorsports you probably won't buy stock parts anywhere else, the savings are that good. It took them about 3 weeks to activate me after I sent in results. Which reminds me, I still need to do that for this year. I also have the good fortune of living like 10 minutes from Rosenthal so they still get my money if I find myself needing something RIGHT NOW.
