slave cylinder or throw out bearing?

When I push the pedal in...it clanks loudly (felt through the pedal too) and won't disengage the clutch. The master is full of fluid, however the slave is covered in fluid/dirt.

I thought it was the throw out because it feels like shit through the pedal, but maybe / hopefully I'm wrong.

Mach929 06-06-2007 07:43 PM

start with the slave then go inside if you have to

miatamania 06-06-2007 07:46 PM

the slave is cheap and easy...def try that first...then do the clutch.

hustler 06-06-2007 07:50 PM

would the pedal go to shit if the slave died?

Mach929 06-06-2007 08:01 PM

yes

hustler 06-06-2007 08:01 PM

pumping the pedal does nothing for disengagement...and I think the gunk is from engine oil because its not actually on the slave.

pedal feels normal.

now when I push he clutch in, I get no strange noise or feel. I'm guessing its a slave, but the little piston is moving. I need to look inside the trans and see if the arm is moving.

full master cylinder
normal pedal feel at idle
pumping the pedal changes nothing
no weird noises
the visible piston at the slave cylinder moves like 2"

busted pivot?

pilot bearing? It only makes the noise if I fuck around with the pedal, and push it in all the way...slowly, and romantically.

starting this bitch in gear is not fun.

My master cyl went out at a gas station. I made it home that way though.

I have to drive it 3 hours home, which is not big deal since its all in 5th...but I have to drive like 45 minutes each way into town to get my clutch, then to my shop to replace it. Hopefully I can do this shit in about 4 hours. I can do the trans in my vw out and back in, in 90 minutes.

cjernigan 06-06-2007 09:25 PM

What clutch did you go with again?

magnamx-5 06-06-2007 09:30 PM

tow truck?

spec stage 3. Gary from TD guaranteed me a replacement if it fucks up.

nah, I can do it, as long as I don't have to completely stop the car anywhere other than a hill in my favor. I'm in Oklahoma City and it would cost a fortune to tow it to dallas in fuel alone with my fathers 53' trailer.

I'm tired of working on cars. I just put a trans and rear beam in my vw, and re-loomed the car after the electrical fire.

Bringing this back from the dead.

I searched multiple threads about clutch issues, and this came closest to what I am experiencing right now.

I changed out the master cylinder, slave and even replace the clutch line with a 949 line. PO replaced the clutch with a ACT HD at 107k miles, car is at 137k now.

Anyway, anyone ever had this problem and fixed it? HUSTLER?

hustler 09-04-2013 01:43 PM

It was broken fingers on the pressure plate.

rleete 09-04-2013 02:01 PM

Let this be a lesson to all pressure plates to pay off the loan shark on time.
