sleepy eye mod!!

okay I have had so many ppl tell me they like my car except the headlights are to "gawdy" how is the best way to make them sleepy for cheap and effectiveness at night??????

paul 01-05-2008 07:37 AM

not sure i can help you on the cheap side but for effectiveness you cannot beat the Moss Low Profile kit.

edit: ewww, i need to start taking pics with my GV lip

ApexOnYou 01-05-2008 12:53 PM

Not sure if you just want a switch for sleepy eyes, but you have to put a switch on the blue/white wire coming off the hazard switch. Thats the easiest location I found to add it. The switch kills the motors, so you just have to switch them off, push the headlight up button, then bump the switch you added untill the headlights are where you want them to be. When you turn your headlights on, it still raises them, so if you have to flash someone or something they still pop up. IMO sleepy eyes make the headlights look broken though.. +1 for the moss low pros, or if you want to spend some cash, the AAC headlights.

Newbsauce 01-05-2008 06:48 PM

Apparently your car is not fast enough if your friends are able to look back in the mirror and see your "gaudy" lights.

turbobluemiata 01-05-2008 08:20 PM

no no no its fast enough i beat most of them except my friends gtp but they see it just driving!

What kinda lights are in the Moss low profile kit? I want more brightness out of my headlights, they fucking suck so I am thinking of alternatives.

paul 01-06-2008 12:09 PM

Hella 90mm modules. per side: 1 projector for low beam, 1 reflector for high beam

they are completely fucking awesome! http://www.rallylights.com/hella/90mm_modules.asp

Saml01 01-06-2008 12:13 PM

If you have a chance take a pic of it at night for me, if you dont mind.

Tell you the total truth though, I have a thing for the popup lights, its gonna hurt to dump them. I really really wanna try getting the H4 housings from Rallylights and slapping in some HID bulbs to see the result.

Edit: I cant find the low profile light kit on moss's site :(

the Moss Low Pros do still pop up, just not into the sky like fucking crab eyes.

anyway, i have a set of Hella E-code housings i removed when i installed the low pros. if you want them $50, with bulbs. I'll be dropping off the girlfriend tonight in Brooklyn Heights if you wanna check out the Low Pros on one of our cars. A picture isn't gonna show shit. call me later if you wanna make arrangements ---.---.----

btw, i couldn't find them on the Moss site either. weird.

maybe Duetto still has em http://www.duettomotors.com/miata/li...ow-profile.htm

I like the idea behind the AAC lights, but I think the miata looks stupid with them. Not really sure why though, it just doesn't fit right.

To be completely honest, I really don't like the look of them either, and I wish they could have made non CF versions to keep cost down for those of us who aren't into the "uber JDM CF look y0".. But it gets rid of some weight up front and reduces engine bay clutter so I want to pick up a set eventually this year.

paul 01-06-2008 04:43 PM

...and they have drastically reduced peripheral light since they are blocked by the fenders and hood line.

ApexOnYou 01-06-2008 04:45 PM

At least they are raised up a bit unlike all the previous flush headlight kits. Not as good as barn doors of course, but I wouldnt imagine it being horrible.

My hazard button has no blue/ white wire coming from it... 1990 miata, any other wire to tap into???

What happened to the thread starter?

Good job dipsh!t, you just bumped a 4 year old thread.

Pretty sure he's still alive. I think he's been on XBL at least once in the past few months.

It's actually a relevant question. If he'd started a new thread you'd be flaming him for not searching. :dunno:

YEAH, and if he hadn't posted in this thread and instead started a new one, you'd have had a little fit and linked him to this thread and said "Hey dipshit, why didn't you just add to this thread."

There's a time and a place to bash NOOBS... I actually wrote several books on the subject. Bumping a thread like this for an answer like he's looking for is a perfectly good reason to bring an old thread back from the dead.

He dead. I always like the pics of his dogs, though. Someone needs to put a Santa hat on my Av this winter.

Proper use of bumping.

I shoot first and ask questions later, sorry if y'all can't handle that.

EDIT: I'm obviously wrong, don't exactly know what I was thinking...

What color wires do you have? Here is the 90's wiring diagram. If you look at page 6, in section c-14 you can see what the stock wiring colors are. I do not see a blue/white wire on the 90. Now I have never done the sleepy eye mod, so I am not sure which wire you need to tap.

halfmanhalfhorse2009 01-25-2012 11:40 AM

Red. Yellow and red. Green for retractor...

When I get home tonight, I will try to figure out what wire you need to splice into. Although I do not guarantee I will give you the correct info. As I have never done the sleepy eye mod, nor do I really plan on it.

Joe Perez 01-25-2012 02:29 PM

Just so I understand correctly, are we actually helping someone make their Miata look like it has broken headlight motors?

And make themselves look like retards. The headlights can be raised manually when the motors are broken.

kotomile 01-25-2012 05:12 PM

I can't prove this, but after my Miata went through (and emerged from) its "sleepy" phase, the headlights seem to bounce around more than they did before I ever tried to get them to hold that uncomfortable neither-up-nor-down pose.

There are other variables in play, of course, like the recently installed ES bushings, etc. But this is maybe something for the OP and others considering the broken headlight motor mod to consider.

Is it really that hard to answer the question? Apparently people have internet balls, cuz they wouldn't be talking all this ---- if I was standing in front of you... Get off the internet, u gotta wake up early to catch the school bus

Ohh ----!! Its about to get serious.

I had the sleepy eyes on my black pop ups. I liked them at the time, also not giving two fucks what anyone else thought.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1327534009

The pivot controller is what I was using though. Although I cant remember if it just plugged in to an existing harness or if I wired it in. I kept them on the lowest setting which was like 20%.

If I was to go back to flip ups in the future I'd definitely have to get the Moss low pros. I'd never go back to the full 7" frog eyes again. :fawk: Fawk that.

gearhead_318 01-25-2012 06:32 PM

If I where y'all I would be careful what I said to this guy, he is a centaur after all.

Hmmm... a dude (or Jamie is also a girls name) talking tough on a Miata forum. Seems a little lame to have a girls name, drive a chick car, have 3 posts, AND be talking crap. Just sayin, cause I don't want to make anybody mad that I'm not standing right in front of.
