so ... anyone twisted their chassis..???

so I seem to have suddenly developed some issues with the boot (trunk) and bonnet (hood) having problems closing. I was suprised to notice that the panel lines down the side of the boot aren't even any more, one side I can just about stick my little pinky into, and the other one is tight-as.

so what's up with that? Anyone know? :eek5:

I had to actually take the bB to work, cos I couldn't close the Mazda's boot (trunk) !!

check where the trunk lid bolts on to the arms. If the bolts are loose, the trunk could be misalinged.

jif 04-06-2008 01:37 AM

nope, they're still on tight!

I gotta see some pics.

unless you are running 400+ ft*lbs and drag radials I highly doubt you twisted the chassis...

Mach929 04-06-2008 12:55 PM

i'm doubting to you've twisted anything, just loosen the trunk lid an realign it, will take a few tries, run your finger along both sides and try to get an even gap on both sides

Thanks for the translation! :bowrofl:

Most of us watch enough BBC programming to know the terms tho man. :)

It would take quite a few high horsepower launches in the realm of 350+ hp to torque the chassis. Something else is up...

Trent 04-09-2008 05:02 PM

Don't you guys refer to the soft-top as the hood?

Zabac 04-09-2008 05:18 PM

I know of a car (miata) under 300whp that has slightly twisted the chassis, but the trunk and hood (bonnet and boot) are not where it showed signs...it was the A pillars, The paint cracked slightly on both sides.
This is also a 1.6 car, less bracing FWIW.
I seriously doubt you twisted anything.
How much power are you running? More than 300?
Does the paint where the trunk and hood latches bolt up show missalignment? They could still be tight but still have moved.

jayc72 04-09-2008 06:04 PM

I put a lot of stress on the car by jacking one corner up 8" off the ground and my doors and trunk still open. Can't imagine 300whp putting more stress on the chassis than that.

I can't imagine how you would have tweaked the car that badly.

Do you make a habit of going over speed bumps with 1 side of the car? I heard of an NSX owner getting his hood out of alignment doing that. So he started going over speedbumps with the other side of the car, and it evened out. o.O
