Very not turbo related I just thought I'd share. See I've been having this problem with my car... I can't use the brakes because my knee hits the steering wheel. it SUCKS. and it's almost caused me to slam into something more than once.

The thing is: I have a 2001 with airbag. It's the one that works and doesn't burn your face off. It's kind of a toss up. Brakes prevent crashes that require the airbag but the airbag saves you if you can't stop.

I haven't smacked into anything yet so I thought I'd try something new:



It's a Nardi Sport Rally on a Daikei (finishline, rspeed, metro motorsports) hub. I got the Sport Rally because it's got a nice dish to it and the diameter is just a hair smaller than stock.

It sticks out about 1-1/2" further than stock and is about 3/4" smaller.... I think?

I have the same problem. I want to get a smaller wheel (not ghetto though) and a detatchable mount.

I feel your pain- the SM I've been racing has a 5'8" owner and I'm 6'. I've learned to drive with my knees bowed out. Suit would still catch on the ign key where it bunched up at the knees, so we cut the head of the key off. Actually turned the car off a couple of times while on track, though fortunately not in a race.

That setup looks like an ideal solution IMO. I like all the room behind the wheel.

yeah i need to do something about mine eventually too, but i don't think i will want it back further because it's already tight with my sparco sprints. so i'm thinking something a little smaller maybe even a D-cut.

drove it with the new wheel today... works great and I can lean back a little more and still reach it.

the only problem? I can barely reach the turn signal stock
(how easy is it to reposition that?)

I bought a sparco ring to help with leg room. Haven't had a chance to install it yet though.

Faced the same problem in the SM (I'm 6'2") and went with the Sparco as well as a LTB quick release. Between the three or four inches of setback from the QR and the adapter and the d-cut wheel I have more room than I know what to do with. I probably will put a similar set up on the street car in the near future.

yeah it's the "stick your stick in a vise" kit. Or you can get the bill wilner shift extender with the kink in it. back and way up. like drivin a vintage vee dub.

This is exactly what I need. At 6'2 trying to heel-toe is a PITA with the stock steering wheel position because I have to move the seat forward a click in order to comfortably reach the steering wheel for a race comfortable position.
Think a D-cut would be even better, possibly with a shorter hub if one exists?

There are slim hubs available but the ones that I've seen are pretty pricey.

Here's the thing, you can get leg room with a smaller wheel OR a closer wheel. A shorter wheel increases steering effort and obscures the gauges.

A deeper/dish wheel just gets closer to you and away from your knees. that's why I went that way. I'm 6' with a long torso so the gauges are partially obstructed if I sit up straight.

I think a flat wheel and a standard hub will sit about where stock is. I think my stock wheel is about 365mm OD.

I want a wheel like that, but i just have so many other things on my list that come first that it will be 2 years lol. Hopefully I grow even taller so i can bump it up on my list.
