So I won a car...

Actually I was high bidder. I know the seller from back on the old Miatapower list. I didn't think I'd win with that low of a bid. Potential buyers probably got scared away from the Motec and the fact that it's not a great time to sell a Miata in much of the country. So how do I tell the wife I bought another car? :) Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission I guess.

I'll probably pull the FMII manifold/turbo/DP and maybe do a custom FMIC with better piping and do a T3 based setup since I have the parts. Looks like I'll be learning to tune the Motec too.

I'm thinking I got a pretty good deal, even if I part out the kit and go bigger. Plus the radiator/fans/sways that come with it are worth about a grand. I'll keep them though.

I should have some parts for sale when I finally get the car here. Gotta ship it from CA to Baltimore.

Man.. you stole it.

Atlanta93LE 12-14-2006 10:22 AM

Seems like quite a deal to me!

WOW good price for the car stock, not to mention you get all that "free" FI stuff... like a motec!

I totally would put the car back to stock and sell it for a profit, then sell the FI goodies seperately. You could make many thousands $$$.

fmowry 12-14-2006 10:39 AM

I've thought about that (parting out, at least partially). I'm gonna tune it and drive it for a little while and learn the Motec on a decently sorted out car. The fact that I don't have to do a clutch is a bonus too. I don't have as much time these days as I used to for wrenching, so a car with some of the bigger mods out of the way like the clutch and ECU wiring is nice. Going to a much bigger turbo on an 01 won't buy me much since I can't turn up the wick with the higher compression anyway.

I was originally gonna get a high mileage 99-00 in the 6-7K range, boost it and not worry about killing a high mileage motor, but with only 27K miles on this, I won't be as free and easy boosting it.

The car also has an M1 CAS and Shivs crank trigger wheel installed. Motec is running off the CAS currently. I'd like to switch it to the wheel for better accuracy.

Nice steal!

The guy's been a miatapower lister for a long time so hopefully no hangups in the transaction. And hopefully shipping goes smooth. I've never shipped a car before but I just don't have time to fly out to Cali and drive it back to Balt-DC. It would be a fun drive though. Who knows, if I tell my wife about it today, maybe she'll divorce me and I can fly out and pick it up!

I can't believe I spent all of my money. I really want to buy another miata. Where were all of them last year!?

m2cupcar 12-14-2006 11:38 AM

You took it- very nice ride IMO. I sold my last race car on eBay and shipped it to CO. Probably the best advice to him, is to ship it like he's shipping it to himself. He needs to watch the guy loading it on the truck every step of the way.

If you have any pals out that way, I'm sure they wouldn't mind picking it up for you and keeping it until you can get out there. ;)

Biggest problem would be temporary MD tags and insurance (and chance). Shipping from Cali to Balt is only $500.

Ill fly out there and get it for you

Frank, we've learned the hard way that you don't want to ship a convertible cross country on an open carrier. Spring for enclosed delivery! Or pick it up yourself.

Yes, it's a lesson from experience.
