So my pully did slip
Rember how I said when I tried to set timeing the mark was about 35 dgrees past TDC when it should have been 10 degrees retarded? Well the pully did slip! Checked piston 1 and TDC and it was way off. I made a new mark and did the timeing, so its at the right timeing now.
question is, do I need a new pully now? Nothing looks wrong about it, but could this cause damage? |
how do you know it won't slip again? that could be catastrophic to some parts in your bay it if blows apart
|
k. Where is the best place to get one?

i said "in your bay"....as in a heavy metal pully getting throw in your engine bay
|
yeah, it just slipping wont cause any issues with it running, it slipped where the a/c and p/s belt are driven.

i haven't looked at the miata pulley in while, but it's a harmonic balancer which means the outer pulley section should be cusioned with rubber in bewtween the portion that's on the crank, if it's loose enough to spin maybe it can walk it's way off the front

PullEy. I'm not usually a spelling nazi but fuck if that isn't annoying. It's like BREAK PADS.
A pully is what I'm probably gonna do when I come home alone from the bar tonight. :( |
Mine came apart at 6krpm once. If its slipping, get it replaced.

How is the pulley able to slip? Also, when I've removed the crank pulley on my '97 to replace the timing belt, I've never seen any rubber. Are you guys talking about the gear the timing belt goes on?
you know its starting to fail when your timing marks start moving around relative to the crank, the outer section of the pulley starts wobbling or the rubber starts sticking out... |
