Stream of water from window seals after rain.
 

Title explains it all, my car sits there, it gets rained on, then I go drive it. Which ever comes first, a downhill driveway or me pressing the brakes, causes water to shoot forth from my window seals and onto my pants, my g/f, or if I remember, the floor because I moved in time to not get wet.

I've gone though tons of threads at m.net about it and the pictures aren't showing me anything, because they're all gone. I don't appear to have any ripped seals that I know of. Do I need to make adjustments, lube my seals with silicone spray or what?

PS. My main drains by the seatbelt tower are clean as a whistle if anyone cares.

Another interesting tidbit, when i was tearing my car apart and getting tools in the trunk I found some water. A whole 2-3" of it in this cavity:

So I knocked out the grommets(replace later), drained and cleaned it all up. I'm going to assume that this water was from before I cleaned my drain holes.

So whats the word on keeping the Nile from spilling out of my top. Tired of looking like I pissed myself after driving the miata.

mine used to do this on the top front of the drivers window where it meets the frame and I just payed attention to where it was leaking and put some clear silicone and no more water?

I had the exact same leak as you guys. Mines occured between the top of the windshield frame and the door. Once I replaced the rubber weatherstripping that runs from the bottom of the door jamb, across the top of the windshield frame and back tot he other door jamb it went away. Its a $130 part. I guess it just wasn't sealing right anymore.

So $260 and it won't leak anymore. I think i'll deal with the water for a while then.

mine leaked too, and i could not find out where it was coming from, i ended up pulling all the rubber seals off, wiping them off with some cleaner and reinstalling

Im not sure what i did, but since then i have not had any leak whatsoever, im guessing there was something not pressed fully into place and when i redid everything i made sure all the parts were fully seated in position

chad, there's a way to bend the aluminum track the window seals run along around the top but i can't promise it'll do anything. maybe get your gf to hose you down while you sit in the car and search?

Man it's like 75 outside right now, i would much rather be hosing her down. Guess it's worth a try. Though, when the car isn't moving you can't see/find water, until you hit the brakes and it all flows out onto you. I'll dig around and see what i can find.

That's where mine leak. The seals should stick out further, away from the car. The door pushing on them all the time wears them out, and they become recessed. Then, when you shut the door, they don't keep enough pressure on it to stop water. Mine leak during very heavy rain, or at 60+MPH.

There is a fix for it. Either new seals, or cut and fill your stock ones with some kind of soft foam that gets them back into their original shape.

Interesting, someone told me they were adjustable as well, Y8s said you can bend the bracket, someone else said you can adjust it. They don't leak on the highway at all no matter how hard it rains. They just fill with water when sitting still. Maybe i'll do the nikidanjo deal and coat it all with silicone.

chad, does water come in where the two seals butt up against each other? my softtop will sometimes do the same thing; watertight in motion but maybe a drip or two when stationary. i pushed the two seals towards each other and the leak stopped. I'm told that the best thing to do is to snake something in the channel to push the whole seal, but I just grabbed them with my hands and pushed.

Pretty sure its coming from between the two seals. I'll pull the seals, adjust the rails a little bitty bit, lube the seals with silicone and see what happens. The silicone should make them repel water better as well as "seal" against each other better. Thanks for the tip.

Just thinking about something else. My car is parked on an uphill slope almost all the time. Seems that would keep this from happening as all water would drain backwards. I still don't know how the hell water gets in there though. Went and inspected it all and there is no evidence of leaks.

go to lowes and get a shitload of that 1/4" (iirc) round gasket stuff. cut your gasket open slide that shit in.
