Stumped - 2nd Gear Low Engagement (Other Gears are Fine)
Posted this on m.net.
So only my second gear sometimes has a super low engagement point. All other gears engage fine. I also hear a clunk when I shift to 2nd gear, if at WOT or a high RPM shift. Slave has been changed. No leaks. Bled about 9 times now. No differences. All new redline fluid in tranny and diff. Any ideas? Can't understand why it's only isolated to 2nd gear, and occurs occasionally. *Edit* I often can't get into reverse ONLY when parked on a slight decline. Goes in fine w/ the car not started, though. Thanks. |
make sure your clutch slave is 100%

There are absolutely no leaks around the slave. Any other way to check if it's ok?

May be a syncro going bad. I'm not 100% sure but I would lean towards that. Check around local tanny shops and try and find one that gives free estimates. They have loads of experience and can usually tell just by driving the car.

Why would you lean towards a bad syncro? Syncros will affect engagement point?
|
Anyone have an answer to this ^?
|
I would say probably synchro also, but im not a tranny expert.
|
if i had to guess i'd say an internal problem too, but i wouldn't say 100%. it's kind of the only thing that makes sense since it's only happening in one gear.
|
I don't know how your engagement point would be affected by a tranny issue, but as far as reverse, I'm pretty sure that reverse gear doesn't have a synchro so if you're rolling backwards you wouldn't be able to get it in gear without some double-clutching and rev matching.
