Default 7mgte swap

was originally planning a 2jz but for what it is the 7m will be MORE than enough for this car and one just happened to kinda fall into my lap lol as its gonna be my dd/shop sponsor vehicle my plans are to be able to hit low 11s high 10s maybe a bit faster by the time im done with it. i am on a tight budget with this so anything you see that looks expensive really isnt its just the out come of alot of time.
so far i have
pulled the donor engine and trans
clean and went through trans
pulled ecm harness fuel lines etc
rebuilt and polished the turbo
gotten all the gasket to rebuild engine
started polishing the intake and valve covers
painted oddball engine parts and block
installed a 4 point harness and bar
done all the measuring
installed drilled and slotted rotors
put the new crank in the engine
put the new pistons on the rods
installed my water temp oil psi and boost gauge
installed my intercooler
the only problem so far seen is hood clearance with the stock intake once i save up and build a front face intake it will be fine
ill post pics asap i just gotta upload them to my photobucket first

For those of us not interested in a random assortment of letters and numbers, what car did this engine come in, and what are it's general specs?

mk3 supra. the older, boxy looking one. the engine is old and is a cast iron 2.5 I6 I believe. Shitty stock turbo and HORRIBLE ic routing as well as the most retarded intake manifold design. It made something like 250 to the crank in original form IIRC.

Oh and heavy as hell.
I'm not hating and I wish him the best of luck, but the 7m really is inferior and mediocre at best.

Also in for pics

I got one in the back yard right now I WAS going to build for the street. Yanked everything out of it and now she sits - may put a V8 or something in it and make it a "what ever the hell I want to do with it" car - way too heavy to put on track, that's why I turned my attention to the miata. I could make a drift car outta it.... OMG, did I just say that??? 2JZ no ****?

On a serious note about the 7M, built right with lotsa head work, it can put out a LOT of power - 700 easily, but its costly. If you haven't changed the head gasket yet, better do that while installing ARP studs too...

the 7m is a 3.0l i6 it made 235 whp at stock form at 6psi

as far as the ct26 being a bad turbo...?? idk about that one i like it as far as stock turbos go it flows good up to around 15psi at which point your making 350hp with the 7m

its heavy as far as miata standards yes but it only weighs ~300lbs so all in all its not that bad and the trans im using is at most 15lbs more than stock miata trans (w58 not r154)

the 7m got a bad reputation because of toyotas simple mistakes like improper head torque and the oil pump has to soft of a relief spring in it all of which are problems that are very easy to fix and cheap if not free its in no way an inferior engine unless your looking to make rediculous hp that in a miata you'll never be able to put down anyway at 400hp the 7m will be just as reliable as a 1j/2j/rb25-26 making the same hp
as far as the intake and ic routing the ic is no longer for a supra so problem solved there lol its gonna be routed just like any other miata just backwards
and im building a front face intake as soon as i get to the wharehouse to use the tig

and also i only have $450 of my own cash into this and i have everything but mounts and im building those so there free
i got a call out of the blue from some kid asking if i want to buy his 89 supra witha rod knock for $1000 i went and looked at it and it was in amazing shape with coilovers rims etc so i did it i then bought a 7m off cl for $300 and was planning on rebuilding it and puting it in the supra but my landlord said either get rid of it or register it so i stripped everything i would need for the swap out of it and sold the rest for $1500 the car came with a set of forged pistons and a gasket set so those were free the head gasket was $117 studs were $112 fmic kit $180 bearings $40 rockauto closeout lol turbo rebuild $50 oil $40 and the car came with 30 oil filters idk why but im not arguing free stuff the boost gauge was free the oil/water gauges $50 the fuel pump $80 so were at $469 for an engine that will be reliable make good power be unique sound awesome and do anything i need it too

oh and here are some pics ...

I am deff in for pics on this I have a 2j miata being built right now your trans is great and I would not put a 7m in anything even if I was paid to, but if you are only gonna run 350hp and no more it will be fine. Good luck with your build I hope all goes well.

P.S. where are you from.

We have 2 7m supra's at our shop right now.
one is getting sold and one is in the middle of a 2jz swap right now.
Believe me, I know a thing or two about 7m's

The ct26 is failaids cause it blows up past 15psi. And NO WAY will it make 350whp on 15psi in a 7m.

Anyways, good luck to you. Hopefully you end up with a good setup.
Don't take my posts as flaming either, I really do hope you succeed despite using an inferior engine.

Um... No I'm not trying to build the fastest thing on the road just something that will be quick for what it is. I understand that everyone has their own opinions but so far all I've seen is people ragging on everything I've said and nobody looking at the unique qualities other than the guy doing the 2j swap. I agree he has alot more going for him with his swap but the thing is once I'm done with this and the engine is in I will have a very reliable quick little car that has alot of room for improvements down the road. If I wanted I could easily throw a 2j in this once the mounts for the 7m are built all i would have to do is get the mounts for the 2j to fit the supra mk3 and it would slide right in, as I stated before i just sorta had this engine fall into my lap along with a new set of forged pistons and some simple upgrades for it and everyone i know said it would be neat.

I like how you began this post with a few actual, albeit horrible sentences. Then, came sentence #4, and your old habits kicked in. Damnit man.
