Team Hotspot Rear Subframe Brace

Does anyone have anything to say about the Team Flatspot Rear Subframe Brace?

slutz4 10-22-2007 09:20 PM

never heard of it

Braineack 10-22-2007 09:26 PM

Keith Tanner has one on "Baby".

Unfortunately, I cant find any pictures of the brace. All I can tell you is what you will find in the first few sites youll find if you google search the brace. Braineak is right- babys got one that you can read a short blurb on if you go to keith's personal website. its a longitudinal brace on the rear end that limits the amount of squat youll get under acceleration and braking. I can neither find out where to buy one, nor can i find a picture through google. If any of you find one, please post. This sounds like a good brace.

its limiting squat?

Braineack 10-23-2007 09:00 AM

due to the lack of any information I'd say it doesn't sound like a good brace.

All it does is connect the forward mounting points for the lower control arm on the rear suspension to the floorpan. From the little searching I did, it sounds like the dude was simply buying metal rods at Lowes and welding them up. He also stopped making the things about 10 years ago.

+1 mostly because if it limits squat is has me scared

Braineack 10-23-2007 09:09 AM

it sounds like a traction bar for drag racing really. If you have no squat in a corner, you might as well have + camber.

To stay on topic, if you want to know something about the brace maybe get in touch with someone who has one ... I don't know, maybe someone from FM?

USMCDriver 10-23-2007 01:02 PM

Im not going to buy one, just interested in what the heck the thing is. It sounded a bit unique. But- as Braineak stated, if there is this huge lack of data or buyers, its gotta be for a reason.

It's team FLATspot. that made searching for it a bit easier. Couldn't find any pictures but it sounds like the factory subframe bracing for 94+ cars.

in the installation notes Keith posted, it sounds like it is just drilled and bolted to the floorpan without additional reinforcement which sounds like a bad idea. the 94+ had a reinforcement peice there to take the strain which was made available through MMD for 90-93 cars. it has to be welded in.

USMCDriver 10-23-2007 01:45 PM

Do you know if the 94+ models were attatched to the upper A-Arm as well?

USMCDriver 10-23-2007 01:49 PM

Im imagining a complete loss of suspension using this brace- but that does not sound usefull to anyone. Ill have to get under my car again and take alook at everything back there.

USMCDriver 10-23-2007 02:18 PM

I sent Keith a message- ill post the findings when i have them.

marty_uiuc 10-23-2007 03:20 PM

they sound something like what i circled in this picture:

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...c/braces-1.jpg

whether or not the team flatspot brace forms an 'X' or not, i have no idea. it sounds like it might.... although it would seem that might interfere with the exhaust and PPF

Loki047 10-23-2007 03:23 PM

how does that affect squat? (nice paint work marty ;)

marty_uiuc 10-23-2007 03:38 PM

i have no idea how that might affect squat, other than maybe preventing deflection of the a-arm pivot point.

neogenesis2004 10-23-2007 03:40 PM

Seems like if thats what you want to do then you might as well throw some leaf springs back there instead:cjerk:
