testing waters with silicone rad hoses

ok gang, i am talking to a few companies about a group buy on silicone radiator hoses, its a little complicated since they take forever to reply...
but another complication is that there are 3 colors and 3 models available, so tis getting tricky and confeusing...
how many people would be interested? or know they want some...
let me know, i need some help in negotiating so pre interest may help us get a better deal...
thanks
dan

Zabac 11-16-2007 02:06 PM

i am ideally trying to stay well below $100 shipped ea kit (NA's and NB's), but its gonna be tough getting there...

Loki047 11-16-2007 02:14 PM

what is the reason for these?

Ben 11-16-2007 02:20 PM

I would suggest that you eliminate as many options as possible. IE you can get any of the colors you want, as long as you want black. :)

cardriverx 11-16-2007 02:25 PM

Why should I get silicone hoses over rubber?

Zabac 11-16-2007 02:25 PM

the colors do not make a difference in price, they are all the same (red/blue/BLACK) all made by samco

Zabac 11-16-2007 02:28 PM

from what i understand silicone lasts much longer and does not rupture like rubber, its supposed to flow better and resist heat better and you can forget about them failing...ever
if someone has more/better information, please chime in...
ask yourself why people prefere silicone couplers for IC piping over rubber?

cjernigan 11-16-2007 02:41 PM

I think if you want to run a higher pressure cap, Si hoses are recommended because the higher burst pressure resistance. Something like that.

PAT! 11-16-2007 02:44 PM

Silicon is better in every regards other than cost. And dealing with Samco is an unenviable Hell.

what do you mean...are they a PITA to buy from or to deal with after the sale for issues

I assumed as much. But to get a friendly group buy price you need to make things easy on the manufacturer/distributor.

Ben 11-16-2007 02:48 PM

In this vein, a group buy I actually would like to see is the Mazdaspeed 1.3 bar radiator cap. The part cost is cheap enough but shipping them in individually from Japan is a biatch.

nester 11-16-2007 03:01 PM

doesn't obx-r make these already?

Zabac 11-16-2007 03:04 PM

im on the same note as you are there, but i figured offering different colors will help us get more people, not just the guys who want silicone for its benefits, but also the guys that are looking to spice up the engine bay at the same time

Loki047 11-16-2007 03:08 PM

im in for 60 shipped.

PAT! 11-16-2007 03:12 PM

The company I work for used to be the official distributer for most of the world... dealing with them for anything required 6-8 weeks minimum, they refused to increase production based on sales (so high demand products were perpetually on 6-8wk, best case, backorder), they wouldn't produce and stock locally anything so it came down to the distributers to assume all financial risk for stocking items... it was just a nightmare.

We would put in an order, say, for 100 units of a part which would cover our projected sales for 6-8weeks. They would refuse it and decrease the PO down to 50... and take 12 weeks to deliver.

kotomile 11-16-2007 03:23 PM

If we can get this going, I'm in.

hustler 11-16-2007 03:36 PM

I'm in. I'd like to get a hose for the coolant reroute too.

thats good to know...thanks man, maybe thats why the distributors take for ever to answer, lol
ill keep picking on them to see how far they are willing to go
so far i got to around $100 shipped, but I want cheaper, much cheaper

Braineack 11-16-2007 04:33 PM

you can pick up a 1.3bar cap at advanced auto for $7....

Ben 11-16-2007 04:36 PM

Yeah I know, I have one. Actually I think it was O'Reilly's and $5. :)
The ricer in me wants the MS cap, which is like $30 + $70 shipping :eek5:

Braineack 11-16-2007 04:47 PM

ban, go hang out at cr.net

Ben 11-16-2007 04:54 PM

Not sure why you're concerned with matching. Have you seen your hood recently? :gay:

Zabac 11-16-2007 04:58 PM

ouch...watch the compliments, lol

The hood speaks volumes for function over form. For that, it kicks ass.

Ben 11-16-2007 05:00 PM

:owned:
I'm pretty sure my neighbors all hate me. The neighborhood's like this: Lexus, Lexus, MB, Cadillac, Vette, S2000, Vette, BMW, Vette, busted gray miata w/blue hood and white hardtop, Vette, Lexus, BMW. Also, I think everyone with a Vette also has a big ass diesel truck too.

Savington 11-16-2007 05:05 PM

For the cost of Samco hoses, you could probably switch over to Evans NPG which doesn't pressurize the system at all.

Mach929 11-16-2007 05:32 PM

i'm in for a complete set, it's something i probably should have done a while ago

Zabac 11-16-2007 05:38 PM

ill keep an eye out for the rest of the weekend and if enough interst shows ill put it together, but ill still keep trying to beat them up on price some more, im somewhat a cheap ass

Dow.tom 11-16-2007 05:47 PM

interested here.

spike 11-16-2007 06:16 PM

we should do a group by from www.siliconhoses.com on the flexible radiator hose.

ApexOnYou 11-16-2007 07:30 PM

:edit: Im a complete idiot.

I'm in.

Just looked at what you were talking about on the link. That is THE perfect hose for a cold side coolant reroute. Where can I buy one of those online within the US?

Depending on the vette's probably not.

Yup! that's what I want it for.

Kelly 11-20-2007 04:47 AM

I had the Samcos. They were really nice. Too bad they didn't offer the heater and bypass hoses though....

55 bucks shipped. It would be cheaper to get a guinea pig for these hoses than trying to organize a GB from the samco.

levnubhin 11-20-2007 09:07 AM

Try these guys. See if they would give a better price.

blue ftw. not for $100 tho. and i also thought OBX already imported these from Taiwan/China already?

Zabac 11-20-2007 02:22 PM

seems to me like i was barking up the wrong tree...il just get me a set then, more people seem to be interested in the OBXr ones, but i will not buy anything from them...
if anyone wants samco hoses, let me know, but im not in on the OBXr ones...

PAT! 11-20-2007 03:58 PM
