Swap motor on MS&S????? I'm looking at $700 for the motor and accessories with no electronics. Your thoughts?

There is a lot that would have to be done, as the intake and exhaust are on opposite sides (header is on the passsenger side in the NC)

I don't know what motor mounts look like. I know a guy who builds exhaust for all kinds of drag race cars, so that's an easy fix.

what does teh bell housing look like? I doubt it will bolt up to my gear box.

a semi related Q....the motors thats in the mazda speed 3 ...the2.3L 260hp turbo one is that from the same family as the NC's 2.0?

kotomile 12-30-2006 04:59 PM

same family, yes.

You'll need a transmission too- then figure out how to either hook it up to the ppf or support it. I question the vertical height on these motors given the high hood line of the new mx5 vs. the NA. There will most likely be sump issues- so you'd need to build something that will maximize the capacity while fitting in the cutout in the K frame. That will require some pickup work too- no biggy though. As mentioned the exhaust/intake swap sides, so you might consider moving the ppf (if you use it to the other side) to make room for the exhaust. Probably another reason to bring the entire driveline over.

I think the biggest issue you'll have with it, is that it's not going to be as boost friendly as the engine in your Miata now. And you'll be able to make more power with the turbo on the 1.6 than the 06 2.0L.

The 2.3 turbo has been beefed up for turbo duty.

Hopefully you're encouraged now that you've got a list to start with. ;)

I'd say for the amount of trouble, either find a way to use the 2.3 DI Turbo from the MS3/6/CX7 or do an F20C.

Shit for $700 it may be worth it to contact Flyin Miata and see if they need an R&D engine. Sell it to them for $1500:bigtu:

Yeah. its going to be more work that i want to do if I can't just swap in the hell housing and gear box. i was just going to buy the car...but the guy wants too much. I'm going to stick with the 99 swap car I plan on gutting.

I'm a pussy when it comes to fabrication.

For real, I would buy the motor and flip it on ebay.
