Thermostatic Electric Radiator Fan Control

If he add's fan control to your MS all he has to do is connect oen extra wire for you to be able to control your fans with on and off temps in megatune. Much easier and cheaper than that unit. Works in piggyback or standlone form.

I would just like to have my fans come on sooner. I have a secondary temp gauge with the sensor in the heater hose out from the engine and by the time the fans come on the temp is between 225-230. Obviously much higher than in front of the engine where the fan control is. I think the OE theremoswitch is on at 97c for the 1.6 - so that's a BIG disparity in temps- providing both sensors are correct. What does you're OE gauge read? It's right there at the back of the head.
You could also swap your secondary sender location with the OE gauge and see what it reads there. OR If you're not running a coolant reroute, there's plenty of room to drill and tap the rear coolant cap (back of the head) and put the fan thermoswitch there. I'm curious about the disparity. I think either your secondary gauge sender is off or your fan thermoswitch is off. |
Yeah i can add the fan mod, you can turn them suckers on when you damn well choose.
but like Rob said, they should be switching on at 207°F at the thermostat neck. |

What does the fan switch have to see in order to turn the fans on? Is the fan switch connected to the temp gauge at all? I assume that when the fan switch see's 207F it turns the fans on but by that time the temp in the back of the engine is 225F. Which is why some do the coolant reroute? its simple enough, ill add that to your MS, you can switch it to whatever you want. Just unplug the thermoswitch and choose your values in Megatune. like 207 on, 197 off.
it shouldn't, the when the a/c clutch kicks it, it grounds the second fan as well like normal. |

haha, i dunno then. most likely not, you took the ground form the a/c and moved it to the cooling side? then no it will never kick on with the a/c. something cool you could do would be to remove the ground from the a/c fan and route it directly to MS ouput and control just that fan, and allow the thermoswitch to control the main cooling fan whenever...easiest thing i can think of without thinking too hard.

Maybe there is that much disparity from the front to the rear of the head w/o reroute. Would certainly justify a reroute IMO. Move the OE thermoswitch to the back of the head. I think I've got a spare cap so you could do it w/o bringing the car "down", then just swap them out and plug the front bung. I did the same thing on my NB way back for a mechanical temp sensor- so I know it can be swapped with engine in the car. You can see the spot in this photo- just below the bung going to heater hose, above the lower nut.

Thats a great idea, but with the MS I could just set the fans to come on at around 185 which should put the back of the engine at around 205 ish.

I'm nearly positive there's a wiring diagram on m.net (or a link) for setting the fans to work with both circuits- so that either (a/c or thermoswitch) can trigger them. I can't recall at the moment how the a/c fan is triggered - but knowing that would start the process for a wiring solution.
