Default E85 or Pump/Meth

I'm in the process of finishing my car and I am having a hard time figuring this one out. Should I go to E85 or Pump/Meth? I know the pros of E85, and I have about 3 or 4 stations in my town who sell it at the pump, on the flip side I already have a bad *** meth injection system and I would have to buy ID2000's injectors which run close to a grand...and input? I want to run close to 30 pounds of boost on either...

Pump/meth. Even if there are E85 stations in your town, it's going to be a bitch if you want to go anywhere else. I have a friend that runs E85 and he does fine here in MN, but on our last fun run he had trouble once we got out of the cities.

That's what I was worried about also, I guess that's 1 for meth.

How important is it to you to be able to have full power available all the time? That would definitely affect any decision for me.

My Talon is currently set up with a dual image chip so I can switch between the two fuels, and while it's not as fun, I occasionally end up having to switch to pumpgas when I'm on longer road trips. It's not a huge bother to me to run less boost for a while, but that may not sound appealing to you, though I've only had to use pumpgas 2-3 times in the last 2 years, even driving into the mountains where there are very few stations. Here's a page you probably already know about, but I thought I'd toss it out there anyway: http://e85vehicles.com/e85-stations/e85-illinois.html

If it were me, I'd:
Sell meth kit and existing injectors.
Buy larger injectors.
Set up and save a map for both fuels.
Buy a cheap laptop for loading/swapping maps and leave it in the car.
Run E85 as much as possible, switch back to pumpgas when necessary.

E85 is a better fuel, hands down. But, as mentioned above, your limited to where you can fill up. If mileage matters, you lose about 15% on E85. And, E-85 is a PITA to start in real cold temps.

Since I already had a water/meth kit installed before I ever ran E85, I actually ran an E-85 + washer fluid injection map on my Legacy GT and gained another 10awhp/20awtq over E85 alone (325/345 vs. 315/325)

I agree w/ one petro and one E85 map and switch over whenever you want. Or run both together as well - it worked for me.

Good idea, on switching maps. I guess I will be posting my Methonal Injection kit, as well as my 750CC RC injectors on here shortly.

Why not keep the meth kit for when ever you may need to run on pump?

I could, but I'd be nice to save some money selling the brand new kit, and using that toward injectors, we will see. Is anyone interested in RC750CC injectors by any chance?

What kind of airflow are you expecting from the turbo? I can't find a compressor map, and all I see are estimates of 400-600hp, which is a pretty broad range. My point being that you may not need 2000cc injectors, so it may not be quite as expensive as you were thinking. DSM/EVO guys have had a lot of luck with FIC BlueMAX injectors, and I bet 1750's would get you where you want to be, but they are high impedance (IDK if there's a workaround for that in Miatas). There's a vendor on eBay right now selling them new for $464 shipped: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...d=120420298855

Handy chart for e85 and pump/injector sizing: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/arti...culations.html

I'm sure you know this too, but you're also going to need a lot of pump for this amount of e85. The DSM shop I work for has been installing an in-tank Walbro 255HP feeding an inline Bosch 044 for high horsepower applications like yours.

Miata's are high impedance stock, DSM's are low impedance injectors stock do I believe. I understand ID2000's are a lot more injector than I need, but I have seen these injectors idle a stock B series Acura with no problems, plus they're high impedance. I currently have a in-tank Walbro 255HP, but I haven't looked at inline fuel pumps...yet. Thanks a lot for the link though, I will have to check out those injectors a little bit more.

You are correct...not enough caffeine in the system earlier. DSMs have an injector resistor box on the firewall that keeps the ECU happy with the low impedance injectors.

Are ID2000s really a thousand bucks? You can get ID1000s for under $500.

Yeah, they are basically double the price of the ID 1000cc's.

OP,
You should really consider those BlueMax injectors. You will not be able to beat a closely matched 1750cc injector for that price. If they are made for a DSM, they will drop right in on a Miata.

Thanks a lot for the info, I didn't know DSM injectors dropped right in. I have a DSM resistor box currently for my low independence RC750CC so I think BlueMax would be the way to go.

On sale for $240 an injector!

Sure thing. Be sure to do your due diligence on the matching process of FIC (BlueMax) first. I know ID goes through a pretty in-depth process to make sure they are as closely matched as they can be. It'd be a shame to spend this much on injectors that are just second best.
