Track MPG

I'm just curious... those of you who track your miatas a lot, how low do you get the gas mileage? Any single digits??

kday 04-19-2009 08:59 PM

I have no data for the Miata, but my 3800 pound turbo Audi got 6 MPG around Watkins Glen

kotomile 04-19-2009 09:03 PM

With the way they drive, I'd almost be surprised if the n/a guys weren't in the single digits. Us turbo guys ought to be deep into the low singles.

Doppelgänger 04-19-2009 09:04 PM

Oh God...well into the single digits for me. I don't know exactly, but I did a track day at Talledega Grand Prix and I had to go to the gas station....twice, during the day.

Savington 04-24-2009 04:47 PM

Depending on the track, 3-5mpg.

Miatamaniac92 04-24-2009 04:53 PM

5-9 MPG.

Chris

I spent an afternoon running pig trail in Eureka Springs last year and got 11mpg. Spent nearly 4 hours in 2nd and 3rd gear.

No track time yet so I can't report that.

crashnscar 04-24-2009 05:40 PM

9-10mpg in my spec miata.
+1 for only ~$25 in gas per track day.:bigtu:

If you guys would just slow down a little you could get better mileage and help save the earth by reducing your nasty single-digit-MPG-test-pipe-fitted carbon footprint.:fawk:

OK, park the VW and put down the bong. Or should I call you "Vash" now? Haha.

Edit: I'm typing this while I'm driving and I've had a liter of Aventinus and it's rush hour traffic. Woohoo!

The last track day (HPDE) I went to was at Texas World Speedway on 02/14/09: it was a cloudy, cool day, and we had 40-minute sessions. I got 8 miles per gallon.

thesnowboarder 04-24-2009 06:44 PM

i average 6 mpg on track. When i was NA i would average 12-15 mpg. Im still learning and i lift wait then brake, im sure the more experienced are WOT till the braking zones. This could be the difference in gas consumption.

m2cupcar 04-24-2009 07:55 PM

9mpg in a 113.9rwhp 92 Spec Miata at Rd. Atlanta.

Machismo 04-24-2009 09:42 PM

He He... you guys with your MPG's. I measure by the session. Quarter tank for every 20 minutes.

curly 04-25-2009 12:50 AM

I was going to say, I have no idea what mileage I get cause I'm busy, ya know, racing. Started with the needle dead in the middle of the gauge and 25ish minutes later it was gasping for fuel, below the E.

Splitime 04-25-2009 01:00 AM

Who measures... I just top off each session :p

magnamx-5 04-25-2009 01:17 AM

I have seen 13 mpg on my ass kikery of driving here in ky. I could have probly done better but the amount of cops and traffic slowwed me down quite a few times. The Damn country isn't what it was 20 yrs ago lemme tell ya. ;)

have no choice if you want to know what the minimum amount fuel is you can run in a race with one pitstop - it's all part of strategizing :D How precise? One race t&s screwed up and ran the timed race too long- I ran out of gas on the extra lap we were forced to run and went from 2nd in class to 18th. That was our best guess on having to run all out w/o any full course yellows. We added in a small contingency which wasn't enough to compensate for the unknown.

hustler 04-25-2009 10:02 AM

i hit 10mpg at 94whp, lol. Its going to be ugly with 3x the power. I'll pay $20 more per session to crush a few people.

longuyen88 04-25-2009 12:01 PM

I get 0 mpg because I am just running in circles at the track, and not really getting anywhere.
