Track slut or parts car?

97 M Edition, Engine is seized from lack of oil. I need the diff for my car so I would need another diff again if it became a track car. The wheels are just dirty and will be chrome again tomorrow.
Track slut or parts car? Ball park on how much for parts (total if I ebay stuff)? (no rust that I have found so parts are in good shape, brakes work but no clutch hydraulics) Attachment 210495 Attachment 210496 Attachment 210497 Attachment 210498 Attachment 210499 Attachment 210500 Attachment 210501 |
Both...sell all the m-edition BS you don't need (leather seats, fancy radio, chrome wheels, etc..) and make the shell a track slut....if you've got the funds to support it.

Plenty of good parts cars out there. Beat this slut down on the asphalt!

Sell what you don't need for trackin' and fund your season with it.
If it becomes a serious "slut" it won't look the same anyways. |
I concur with the general consensus. Buy it. Strip it. Build it. Track it.
On that note. My friend's '97 M edition is gonna look like that soon if I don't get him off his ass-dildo and out there working on the damn thing. He got all emo about his car after a tree limb effed up the A pillar and top. When I say that though, I should note that the damage is minimal. The top is ready to fall apart, but the A pillar isn't bad. Everything works just fine. Just banged up. I guess its a 97 M edition thing. I've seen 4 of them. All shitty condition, or getting there. What happened? |
Ok. The masses have spoken. I think I am going to put it in my buddies name so it doesn't technically count as my sixth car. We are going to use it as a stupid experiment to see how light we can get it and how much power out of a stock 1.8, extra funds permitting.
We are going to try and turn the existing engine tonight, I give it 100 to 1 (against). Any wanna bet? |
Current goals are 1800lbs and 400hp. Dream big.
|
Oh, and I polished the wheels and they look great. Little too much bling for me though, going to have to sell them.
|
I'd take the diff and part the car out. This is assuming that your current ride is better.

The engine spins now and actually sounds ok. (it can't be) Getting fuel, no spark, fuses ok, so we'll play around a little first, time permitting. I really surprised.
Ok, 1850 lbs. :) |

400whp is doable. 1800lbs isn't.

last time I checked Matts car really isnt absurdly light. Considering he has full cage. I think its a lil over 2000lbs. So figure without a cage in the miata, 1900 lbs is reasonable, but I really doubt 1800 lbs is.

Well, it is currently running. Starts right up. Unfortunately, there seems to be a very small gnome or elf or whatever inside one of the cylinders with a hammer and he or she is really pissed off or trying to get out or a cry for help or something. Although it could be rod knock.

Project cars are always more fun that daily driver cars. No expert, but if you put safety aside then yeah weight can get pretty low. I bet you could hit 1700 pounds if you tried, but it would be a track only car. But it's definitely easier to dial in boost then removing those last few pounds. |
Part it if you deal with emissions testing. Jacking with stand alone sucks for OBD2 inspection. OBD1 is pholyphe.

Now I wish the car was put together, we could have gone for a drive. Perhaps some donuts in the culldesac when the snow comes. If it has enough power to spin em on snow, that is. |
