Tranny fluid leaking!?

did i break the transmission? i've seem to be leaking copious amounts of transmission fluid.... anyone have this experience after their clutch change at all? :vash: 93 miata T25 setup.... ACT XT 6-puck.... i didn't even beat on the car yet for anything to break..... so it can't be anything wrong with the tranny... can it?

Savington 01-30-2008 04:30 AM

Where's it leaking from?

XxGoKoUxX 01-30-2008 04:48 AM

i'm gonna be honest savington... i can't even tell... i hadn't noticed it till i got home after a half hr drive.... and when i let it settle... there was transmission oil all over the effin place... seems to be close to the oil pan area though... if that helps any

hmm tranny seals would not just go that quickly. Are the drain, and the fill plugs sealing right? Most likely if it is comming from the front of the tranny back of the motor you could have ruptured the Rearmain seal. Are you sure it is Gear lube and not just motor oil? Unless it is the drain or fill the only option i see to fix it is to pull the tranny and clean inspect it.

it may be one of those... my buddy's gonna come to check it out tomorrow for me.... i'm no expert... and i doubt it's motor oil... rear main seal was replaced upon installation, and the oil doesn't smell like motor, it smells like fresh gear lube

XxGoKoUxX 01-30-2008 05:18 AM

ohh... and if it's any consolation, the color of the oil coming out was DARKER than the color of the engine oil =/

magnamx-5 01-30-2008 05:32 AM

my money is on the plugs then

XxGoKoUxX 01-30-2008 06:04 AM

drain/fill hole plug? pray for me magna.... i dont wanna turn it into another bonfire money-pit *cries*

Zabac 01-30-2008 09:49 AM

keep in mind what the transmission looks like, even if you have a leak at the back of it the oil will make its way down the slope before dripping to the floor so it may very well look like its coming from the front no matter where it leaks...
you best bet, jack the car up as high as you can and find the source of your probem
if the back of the tranny is dry, then you know its leaking up front, if you see a trail of oil from the plug to the front then thats where its leaking...

thanks whaam :) i think i'm gonna clean up the mess under there... let it leak one more time and we'll go from there

XxGoKoUxX 01-31-2008 01:41 AM

I FOUND THE CULPRIT....turns out it WAS engine oil.... it came off of the tap off my Oil Pressure Sensor... just dripping when i start the car up... nasty drip too, i hope i didn't do too much damage :(

as for the transmission fluid smell... it wasn't tranny fluid... i guess the burn stinky smell smelled like it to me =/

fyi, trans fluid is usually red, oil is more golden or brown.
