Transmission Chassis brace works wonders

Just got my Tranny cross brace from Moss Motors and MAN DOES THAT THING WORK GREAT! Shifts feel much sharper, engine is more responsive, steering reacts better, and the overall "feel" of the car is much more precise. I highly recommend this thing.

I'll definitely be picking this up in the future, seems like it eliminates the need for the typical brace across there as well...sweet.

Only thing i'm wondering is if the butterfly brace(the only thing worth buying from FM) will work with that tranny brace

akaryrye 05-15-2007 02:46 AM

Ive been thinking about trying to making something like that, drivetrain slack annoys me a lot. Lots of other projects on the list before anything like that though.

expensivehobby22 05-15-2007 08:40 AM

the brace i have there looks like it could be modified to make something similar to that. off to the drawing board...

m2cupcar 05-15-2007 09:06 AM

does it have any bushings?

Atlanta93LE 05-15-2007 09:12 AM

I'm a bit apprehensive on this piece. The entire reason for the PPF is to not have braces like that. How is the NVH factor with the brace installed?

m2cupcar 05-15-2007 09:14 AM

I think you're safe as longs as the ppf can still twist with the diff. But yes, it's like using solid engine mounts. Now if there were some good bushings in there, that controlled movement, it might work like an engine stay.

SMRACER 05-15-2007 11:18 AM

It looks like there are bushings on the piece that bolts to the transmission is this correct?

It does according to the instructions

One question I have is how would this compare to using MSM motor mounts with a Engine Torque Damper.

spike 05-15-2007 12:54 PM

This brace looks very interesting.I'm seriously considering buying one.

fats 05-15-2007 01:29 PM

I got scared off of this brace as several peeps (not in this forum) complained of "too much feedback to the cockpit" and "not for the faint of heart." Not to knock the m.net guys too much, but how could there be such a thing as too much feedback?

So I guess the question is, how much shake/uncomfort is felt as a result of this brace?

I was very interested in installing this on my 93LE as well as the FM butterfly brace, but one $ suck at a time...

MX_Eva 05-15-2007 01:50 PM

Yeah I'm in the same boat as you fats. I want one but after I get my frame rails and prob. after FM front sway.

soflarick 05-15-2007 02:25 PM

What's the NVH like with this brace? Wouldn't it put excessive strain on the transmission case?

I think it'd do the exact opposite

Diver Dan 05-18-2007 12:48 AM

Sorry it took so long to respond. Work is killing me.

Feed back is great. Especilly with corner turn in and shifting. And yes, it has polyurethane bushings. I had installed MSM motor mounts before the tranny/chassis brace and they didn't help much with drivetrain flex. I know the PPF is suppose to help with that, but how can it give stability when you only have two motor mounts and two diff. mounts holding the entire drivetrain to the car's chasiss. And I'm pretty sure the butterfly brace will work with it.

And how the hell can you have too much feed back?

akaryrye 05-18-2007 02:10 AM

so do you have differential mounts too? I will be installing some MMR diff mounts to try to get rid of the driveline slack in a week or so, i guess if that dont do it for me, this brace is next on the list.

soflarick 05-18-2007 07:27 AM

How much does it weigh?

slutz4 05-18-2007 09:22 AM

I think ground clearance must be considered as well, does this brace affect it?

castillejos2000 05-18-2007 09:58 AM

i do have this install in my car,is good to have if your car is race only or local autox, response increas the only problem i have is ground clearance and so much vibration inside cockpit, for everyday use i wont recommend race use thumbs up.
