So upon returning from lunch with my friend (he was letting me drive his 300zx) i noticed that my car seemed to be parked awfully cockeyed next to the curb. I didn't remember parking so horribly, and as i got closer i noticed that the rear end was smashed in rather nicely. Apparently the girl who hit my car was rounding the turn when her starbucks fell out of the cupholder and spilled on the floor of her honda civic hatch. She brilliantly decided to reach down and fuck with it instead of driving (excellent decision):fawk::vash: and when she looked up there was my car no brakes no evasion just full on smackage. So there it sitswhile im dealing with the insurance to get my claim dealt with. Feel for me fellow miata brethren and be careful where you park your car! (should be back soon with another miata)

urgaynknowit 03-23-2008 10:25 PM

this is where u proceed to kick her in her cooch....

that stinks, buy a shell, swap everything over, i hear its all the rage

cheesecow1 03-23-2008 10:27 PM

If anyone wants to try the same toe settings that i have on my car now I'll be glad to let you know!!:jerkit:

Zabac 03-23-2008 10:29 PM

another miata, that will buff out...just put some elbow grease into it...

just do what scott did, and also remember that you can negotiate with the ins.. co. they never offer enough the first time, just ask for more and threaten with lawyers if they say no...this was pure neglegence, and you should be compensated for your lost time and emotional suffering...muahaha

johndoe 03-23-2008 10:30 PM

99% of drivers should never have been given a license. Sorry man.

In my experience that's easier said then done unfortunately.

+1.

FFS, stupid starbucks bitches.. God. I hope her shitty honda is totaled too. At least you know who did it instead of a hit and run.

Pictures of your foot in her ass?

Saml01 03-23-2008 10:44 PM

That looks rediculous. Any estimates to how fast she was going?

cardriverx 03-23-2008 10:46 PM

ahh, I see your running alittle toe in on the rear. How that treating you tire wear wise?

lol, some drivers are retarted, id have yelled ALOT.

scottv 03-23-2008 10:46 PM

If her insurance company tries to screw around, just file a lawsuit directly against the girl...she is responsible when it comes down to it, regardless of her insurance-she could have killed someone making a STUPID decision like that. If no one had insurance, I can damn well bet you most people would be MUCH more careful drivers, people just say "oh, I have insurance, I can drive like an idiot"... :vash:

You know I tend to agree with this for the most part, but sometimes shit does happen.

When its negligence on this level I think she should have to pay her insurance company back for some of the damages. Seriously she should've known better. Whats worse, having a coffee stain on your floor or totaling your car and likely killing someone else?? FFS!!

bryantaylor 03-23-2008 10:53 PM

is she hot?

Trent 03-23-2008 11:06 PM

okay, besides the busted a-arms in the rear, how does the attachment points for the subframe look?

Honestly, I don't think that is as bad as it looks!

cheesecow1 03-23-2008 11:19 PM

She was not hot  she was actually rather dumpy, don't know about repairing it, maybe but, looks like some shit may have gotten bent. And I've said before this happened and more so after, licenses need to be harder to get in America, they are difficult to get in Europe it should be the same here. As was preached to me so much during my drivers training "Driving is a privilege and not a right" heres some more gory shots (oh yea she said she was doing about 25mph which with no braking seems about right F=MA)
Attachment 213983
Attachment 213984

Trent 03-23-2008 11:33 PM

still hard to tell from that shot. the whole rear subframe can be replaced independent of the rest of the body. so if the body itself is straight, you might just need a rear subframe, a bumper, and a rear quarter.

Believe me, I've seen worse!

y8s 03-23-2008 11:51 PM

scott has a full rear subframe you can swap in!

or

... no shortage of front clips on miata turbo dot net.

Dude sorry about your car man.... my car just got totaled last Wednesday. Hope things work out.

mazda/nissan 03-24-2008 12:25 AM

look at how far she pushed your car, maybe she was testing her lil' civic's torque?

zoom2zoom 03-24-2008 01:52 AM

I have a complete extra rear subframe with arms if you do decide to repair it. Also a rear bumper. At least your side skirts and rear spoiler are untouched.

91NApeewee 03-24-2008 01:56 AM

Damn, that sucks about your car... but on a brighter note, those side skirts are awesome. What kind are they?

jayc72 03-24-2008 02:43 AM

I want the parts lists so we can all start making dibs.

You and the insurance company both. I'm currently torn between grabbing another miata and having a go with it or getting an integra gsr but i really don't want fwd...but the extra space...but i already have a ton of parts for miata...:hustler:

Ha, I was thinking about getting a GSR myself before i got my miata. After going to the forums and seeing TWO "my car was stolen" threads both within 50 miles of me, i decided ill pass on it.

[QUOTE=cheesecow1;232450] licenses need to be harder to get in America, they are difficult to get in Europe it should be the same here.

i dont think ya can escape retarded drivers no matter were u are, drivers are shit over here in tha UK to, good luck gettin it sorted.

isnt it possable to buy back write offs from insurance companys over there?
at least then ya get payed out, buy ya car back for near enough fuck all then have cash to improve it with.

SloS13 03-24-2008 08:22 AM

Damn dude that blows ass. Could be repairable though. :(

Doppelgänger 03-24-2008 08:51 AM

Honestly, the damage doesn't look that bad. The LCA, UCA and shock are toast, the rear subframe might not be since the hob broke away. It's much easier to bend the LCA then the subframe. I guess it's going to come down to the condition/mileage of your car to if it gets totaled or not.

What i find funny is i bet since she was probably reaching down and was not sitting upright upon impact, she probably made new friends with the dashboard/steering wheel/airbag in her car.

ldp82 03-24-2008 09:18 AM

man thats shitty, good luck with the repair or new car. nice RA-1's

If your parting out il take that rear spoiler :D

Newbsauce 03-24-2008 09:31 AM

Damn that sucks... pull your parts and get a low mileage miata. The swapping thing isnt as much fun as people say it is ;) Neither would be repairing that rear quarter panel, which really means welding sheet metal onto it.

Unfortunately an 18 year old sub-20k car in any condition is likely going to be totaled if there's non-removable panel damage like that fender.

I'm with newb ^^. Rear fender + suspension damage = totaled miata.

hustler 03-24-2008 10:09 AM

my old jetta was hit 9 times when parked over 7 years.

it doesn't take long to hit $1500 in body work.

johndoe 03-24-2008 11:08 AM

with out a doubt that's totalled. Get the insurance money, buy the car back, keep what you want and sell the rest as a whole or parts and get another one. A GSR might get stolen and your insurance will be higher than a miata because of how likely that is.

budget racer 03-24-2008 11:39 AM

about 3 yrs ago i had nearly the exact same thing happen to me.

my mom woke me up and told me to come outside. when i did get outside i found a flipped over (yes FLIPPED over car in front of my house on my "residential" street) car and a young girl on the curb crying. she supposedly fell asleep and used the left rear tire on my car as a ramp. my damage was similar to yours but not nearly as extensive. They totalled mine. unfortunately i didn't know shit about cars then and didn't buy the salvage title. i lost my ass on that deal.

but my girl was hot.

teknikscian 03-24-2008 12:25 PM

wow! that was a lot worse than i expected!

Ben 03-24-2008 12:40 PM

Both control arms
Hub/spindle
strut a'ssy
quarter panel
$700 worth of parts, at best

I'd fix it.

trito 03-24-2008 12:45 PM

This is a great opportunity to do some upgrades! New paint job and possibly a bodykit or front/rear lip spoiler would be cool. Also since your rear suspension is the poo, you should also replace the bushings as well.

Wow, that sucks! For comparison, here's a pic of my damage from last year. To give you an idea of what to expect, this cost the other driver's insurance $2600 to fix at a reputable body shop:

Attachment 213976

The difference is, the front fender is a bolt-on piece, and the rear quarter isn't. My rear quarter was dented in just slightly, but was successfully pulled out with studs. Actually, just that little region was responsible for about half of the cost. Given that yours is a '90 and has extensive rear quarter damage, I don't see any way that the insurance isn't going to total it. It's probably fixable if you replaced the subframe, control arms & whatnot and then sourced a good rear quarter and cut & welded it in, but that might be as much of a PITA as getting a new shell and swapping your parts over. Sorry man. Damn inattentive drivers. :vash:

+2, 3, etc.

i just WAIT for the day my Miata gets rear ended. :giggle:

g'luck!

elesjuan 03-24-2008 06:33 PM

I might be able to get you some control arms cheap from a friend. Some lady totaled the front of his miata so hes parting it out.

Mach929 03-24-2008 07:07 PM

it fixed more on my car when i spun off the road. swap subframes, quarter can be done if you can drill out old spot welds and spot weld a new one on, remove old replace with new. I couldn't do it so i had a body shop put the new quarter one and i did the rest and had a friend paint it.

My car was:
front bumper
left fender
left door
left quarter
rear bumper

miatanutz 03-24-2008 07:25 PM

The subframe may even be fine. You may just need new control arms. No biggie. Spec guys bend these all the time. The quarter is the worst part of the damage.

cheesecow1 03-24-2008 07:31 PM

Well heres the news as of late, I just got the car back to my house after my friends dad started getting ornery about it being parked in front of his house. Upon inspecting the car closer it looks like only the upper control arm got buggered. the other shit looks straight especially the mounting points for the control arms on the car :giggle: so... Methinks I will dawdle with the insurance company to get them to pay me for the 40+ hrs of work i put into this badboy and the $2300 in shit i have on it and then we will go from there. So it looks like I may be keepin her after all (interest in thread -30 points). Anyone know if the rear quarter panel is a bolt on affair?

Trent 03-24-2008 07:58 PM

it isn't. you will have to do a little welding. and drill out some spot welds.

zoom2zoom 03-24-2008 08:40 PM

Another option would be to just push the dents out as much as possible, replace the broken parts, and drive it around while you save for another clean chassis. And then there is the chance the insurance check from buying it back will be enough to buy another right away.

Sorry to hear about your loss dude.

However if you just asked that, you have basically no chance repairing this on your own.

This is one of those "If you have to ask, you can't do it" type of things.

cheesecow1 03-24-2008 08:53 PM

 Upon looking at the car closer its not just the quarter panel, there is a tear in the metal connecting the trunk to the wheel well all the metal in that area looks like cloth (ripple like) it don't look good
