I totally relate it to this. Untuned, just swapped in the cams before having time to upgrade anything else. He's actually a decent driver and would probably have beaten me if the stock cams were in it. I just like the idea of pulling an Evo in the Miata...didn't think that would happen.

After I get a new clutch in it over the winter I'll hit the track again in the Spring and see what's what (no open tracks here from Nov-April). For ***** and giggles I'd really like to see a high 12sec pass, if I can figure out how to sixty the damn thing lol.

The dragstrip is often the bearer of bad news. It makes you realize how much work you have to do to the car after you worked your *** off installing all those high dollar components.

Slicks are the way to go if you want to have consistant 60' times. Not as hard on the car as you think. A little hard on axles, but that annoying wheel hop will disappear. Makes the dragstrip a lot more fun.

If you get around 103 mph with a healthy 60' you are in the 12's.

Biggest problem was spinning, not hop. Actually didn't have any of that thankfully. I also didn't bother to drop my tire pressure below what I run on the street so that didn't help either. And while I didn't buy/build the car for the strip, it's fun to give it a go every once in a while. I kind of put my dragstrip fetish to bed when I decided to sell my Talon last year in favor of turning faster.

You will pick up a second with slicks. My best 60 is a 1.71. Car went in the 13 teens at 100 or 101, not in the current naturally aspirated set up.

You would be in the 12's easy. Well maybe not easy, but you get the picture. It takes a bit of practice and proper set up.

Yeah, I know where you are coming from. I started out with a set of beater wheels with slicks mounted on them. I am suprised you do not have any wheel hop issues. Both of my cars had that problem.

I tried the Nitto drag radials, and it seemed to get worse. JayL says there are better drag radials that eliminate the problem, but since I went back to slicks, my 60' times improved dramatically.

I could believe a ~170-180whp Miata beating a stone-stock '02 WRX. My 220whp car was even with a 270whp WRX (stock STI is 230whp on the same dyno). It was close enough that I would win with flatshift and lose without it.

This thread, LOL

Reminds me of being in Vegas where some guy in a rental viper ran three passes all around 13.6-13.5 and I got the car next and pulled a 12.5 on my first pass of the day on the beat tires.

Lesson here: Driver mod > all

FYI, my plan for next year or two is to be trapping 100 in the 1/8th. It's getting frustrating since my rival already pulled a 102, so I have my work cut out for me.

To hopefully put an end to this downward spiral of a thread, listen up boys.
From what I got out of this thread, it sounds like "what will my 200whp miata run and will I beat a Subaru STI from a roll?"
My car was at 7psi and I ran a 14.4 on street tires. I ran a 13.9 trying to tune my EBC and it fluxuated between 9 and 12 psi, so I estimate I was about 215whp.
My wife and I were driving to the local casino and my friend with his STI was following us. He wanted to roll race (which I think roll racing is total gayness), so he pulled up next to me, did the 3 beeps, and we hit it. I had it in 3rd and when I floored it, I pulled on him big time until I hit 5th gear and almost bounced off the rev limiter at 125mph. Then my friend caught me and passed me.
To define my response:
A 200whp miata will run low 14's and you will beat a Subaru STI in a roll, but the STI will catch you and ruin your day.
End of thread.

Ok heres where I fucked up.

STIs are 170 KW not HP atw.
Which is about 250hp atw. But they still weight 1600kg not 850.

Everything else I said still stands.

I do belive without a doubt that a cam bolt on miata could put a length or so on a stock wrx, they are slow.
170hp N/A miata
stock 2011 wrx

soo with weight reduction a 170whp na can trap 100mph. I dont think its unreasonable to think that a 150-160whp NA would be able to beat stock wrxs, i think his story might be a little exaggerated on how badly he was beating them though.

What the hell is yalls deal with Subies. I never even see them.

And to whomever mentions it the NT555r is like the worst DR out there. Ive had way better luck with some of the newer nitto stuff, the bfgs and MT ET Street radials.

I did have a set of 555r dr i got for free and ran a few dig races in them, they were better than my street tires but not by much.

Id be happy If I had a turbo miata that trapped 105, I think I could live with that
