Honestly, there are SO many bad things about that motor. How its assembled (by design) and subsequently how its built.. Here is an example; The camshafts do not have a slot machined in them for a woodruff key to keep the cam wheels from turning on the cam... What kind of monkey **** is that? Not to mention the direct injection crap. Nothing quite like a ~1500 - 2000psi fuel system. How about the erector-set mounting bracket for the rear differential??

I discovered a new little tidbit the other day. The MS6, at least, MY MS6 is NOT all wheel drive. Thats right, I got my Speed6 stuck in the snow IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET! Front two wheels were throwing snow, alas only the passenger rear wheel would spin! LAAAME!!

and it's a really really really really really really poorly designed AWD system, like the volvo or VW systems.

From what I heard from a friend that had a MS6 they lean out really bad cruising to keep fuel consumpsion low and then when you go to get into it the fuel doesn't catch up fast enough and poof. Lean, detonate, and broken rods

This thread delivers. I'd like to see a picture of the Mustang... it's unlikely that it's the same one I raced a while ago in Queen Creek, but that would be funny if it was.

The thing with the new direct injection systems is that you do indeed need much more fuel pressure. In fact the systems are much closer to those found on diesel engines than they are your run of the mill EFI gas application. The thing is, they simply have not yet gotten the HPFPs totaly figured out yet with gasoline the way they have with diesel. Diesels regularly run around at 20K PSI line pressure without an issue. But the lubriscity of gas is very different from that of diesel, which means you have a harder time of it despite only operating at about 1/8 the pressure in most cases. The fact that you also have aditives like MTBE in gasoline also makes it a bit tougher. You see the BMW N54 enignes having the same issues too. They will get it right, and likely in the next 3 model years IMHO.

I did not know about those other details though, that sucks. I was just thinking that a slightly detuned MZR making 250HP in an NC would me a little momster and likely do some real damage to competition like the GTI, Raliart Lancer, WRX, Mustang, Genesis, etc. Its over 1000 LBs lighter than some of those

LOL, amazing what one little letter on adjoining keys will do to the meaning of a word. And if he fixes it, I'm going on record saying that I did not FTFY.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the transmission is the same between the MS3 and MS6... the 6 just has this POS bolted on to divert power to the rear...

Lol, no. I'd remember that. Good work on killing a slow ricer though.

Yeah, pretty much. It only activates after the front wheels slip (meaning it's almost always FWD) and it only sends a little power back... just terribly disapointing to me.

^Thats not nessesarily bad. DSMs do that more or less, yet they usually have about 50-60 percent of the power going to the rears. It can be a good design, but chances are they just run it with most of the power going to the fronts most of the time. Combine that will no LSDs and you have some fail. It still blows me away how many OEMs use a open diffs in hi-po cars.

There's a few problems with this.

I said "It only activates after the front wheels slip (meaning it's almost always FWD)"

So, here's your line... DSMs are almost always FWD more or less, yet they usually have about 50-60 percent of the power going to the rears.

Contradictory.

Also, neither dsm's nor subarus (awd models) run without center LSD of some kind.

dsm's are 60% rear 40% frt. torque split. except for the galant vr4 (it's 50-50%) what the guy was describing with one of the rears spinning means that the rear diff doesn't have an lsd. most (but not all early models) dsm's have a viscous lsd in the rear. they don't have one up frt. though.

AWD DSMs send 50-60 percent of their power to the rear with the setup discussed before.

My own DSM had an LSD for the rear (4 bolt, not a 3 bolt). Not sure about th center diff, I stoped playing with DSMs ovr a year ago.

Sorry for the confusion. It sounds like the MS6 system uses the same layout, yet does not send power to the rears unless slip occurs, which sucks IMHO. The DSM system sends power to the back regardless.

Most AWD systems are pretty lame. They got it right on the R8 though, and most AWD supercars have 70\30 distribution.
