Turn of events, need some advice....
Ok, so the sum of this is. I took off all my turbo shit and sold 90% of it. The plan was to rebuild and have some work done on the TD04. Then I was gonna buy the ETD manifold, re-use my RMDP, and go with a new IC setup.
I have the Enthuza exhaust already in the making, and sent the turbo out, but no work has been started yet. Now I see Leebo is selling his FM3 kit and I'm not sure what to do. My common sense tells me to get his kit, but I cant afford to run into problems. I might have the dough to do the dual feed rail with supra injectors, but not much more than that. I just want a good, reliable kit, that's drivable at what my car is currently tuned for. My question is if I was using my TD04 around 8psi, making 180ish whp, what are my chances that the FM3 kit will work pretty much as is? My laptop is down, and I don't really want to get into the whole emanage tuning right now. I just came into a good chunk of change, but I want to spend it wisely. This includes finally getting a fucking good radio and speakers after having my car as is for almost 5 years.....as well as teins and/or wheels and tires. I'm trying to make up my mind before the weekend. And I would like to have the car up and running again within the next week or two. What do you guys think? :eek5: Vash- |
Get his Kit, that's a great deal!
I think his kit is pretty much complete, but I would still encourage you to tune accordingly, regardless what you end up with. |
You'll have to retune regardless of what setup you end up with.
|
By tuning I meant I don't want to have to get back on the dyno and go through all of that again. I want something similar to what I had, were the tuning will be pretty simple and easy. That I could do myself without much work....I'm a nuub with computers....
This is a really hard decision for me to make right now. I finally got the money I needed, but I cant make up my mind. :bang: Vash- |
I'll give you my paypal address if you don't know what to do with your money.
The guy is selling a reputable, complete, proven kit for a very fair price. And you already have engine management in place. If him lowering his price a bit more will help you make up your mind, just ask him, he may do it. You will have tune no matter what you slat on there, no telling which one will be easier. |
I guess I'm just trying to justify the switching completely from my greddy system over to the FM setup. I'm not looking for crazy amounts of power by any means. I want something reliable and pretty much something that will work with what I have, with not a ton of extra effort. Like coolant reroutes, back to the dyno, etc.
I would need to do a different intake setup than his which is no problem, seeing I have the afm still. Drill and tap my oil pan, but that was on the list anyway. This also gives me my dp to sell, hks bov, and some other stuff I have laying around. I just have a hard time deciding whether to go with my initial plan, or to go this way. Figured unbiased advice would help me a little. :) Vash- |
If you get his kit and then decide in the future (and you will) you want more power I think it will be much easier with the FM kit than with your greddy kit.

I sent it to Deadbolt in NC......maybe SC. Anyways, I said no rush.....that means no rush right. Lets just say that I've heard I will look at the teardown sheet and get back to you this afternoon about 5 times so far. Today I was going to get a phone call (LUCKY ME!!!!), never got a call. I'm kinda pissed, but at the same time I know that its been hectic for them the past couple weeks, so I'm not gonna bust balls....too much. :) I sent it in for a rebuild, port and polish, ceramic coating, and a 19t upgrade. And since it was there I asked them to clock it, fab the bracket, and put on a new wastegate. That's as far is anything got, I sent them the turbo and a good down payment, and I'm still waiting to hear how the teardown went. I'm curious is why I would necessarily need to re-tune if I'm putting basically the same turbo back on at the same psi? I can understand if I get leebo's kit that I should need to fuck with my maps, but why re tune for basically the same exact turbo I had on the car? The only thing holding me back is the $460 for the ETD manifold. Like I said, this was going to be it for me, I want the car put back together and running good. I don't have the time anymore to be taking the shit apart every year and re-doing stuff. I need/want a fun car, that doesn't blow couplers, leak fuel, fart exhaust out blown gaskets, and a turbo makes funny noises. I prefer new stuff, but I know sometimes new isn't necessarily mean better. I just need to figure out what I'm going to do and get on it asap. Soon as I'm done with getting it running, it goes to the bodyshop for the repaint and some other stuff. By then I hope to be ready to go back to work. At the rate I'm buying shit I might have to get a temp job, no labor though....I still have a bitch wrist. :) Vash- |

If you don't buy that turbo kit...
My girlfriend is FOAMING at the mouth for that FM3 kit. Hurry up and buy it before she ends up finding enough money out on the corner to buy it, cause I don't feel like tuning a second car right now... -meaty |

I always heard good things about Jerry over at Deadbolt, but man that does not sound encouraging at all.
Jerry has been nothing but super polite and seems to be a great guy, he just isn't very responsive to emails. I tried giving a call down a couple times and just got the machine. God only knows if I decided to get my turbo back, whether or not I'd even get my $350 back?! Vash- |
you didn't answer my question

Geez Vash,
You sound just like the little voice I hear inside my head everytime I get vacation time. ;) I basically faced the same decision when I totally fubared my GReddy rebuild. I decided to sell off what was left of my GReddy kit and go with the BEGi. I'll tell yah, other than the BEGi AFPR, I had the same EMB based management. Once the swap was complete, it would have been a major retune (with some dyno time) I hadn't decided to try OG's Autotune instead. Good luck! |

Well I just gave a call down to speak with Jerry and just like I figured I got the machine. If I don't hear from him by closing today I will assume the worst and start with making a claim. Seeing I'm still off from work, I have a 50/50 impulse to take a nap today, and drive down tonight, and be at his doorstep when he opens in the morning. Asking for my $350 and my turbo....right fucking now. :vash:
I need to speak with him before I decide on what way I'm going to go. I want to know the total price on the work I requested, and then factor that toward the price of leebo's kit. Whatever happened and went on with them these past couple of weeks is their business. But fuck me man.....at LEAST keep in touch with me.....lol. I really don't know how some people stay in business sometimes......:eek5: Vash- |
