Under hood heat sheild question

Hey guys,

I was thinking of using some of that silver heating duct tape on the under side of my hood near the turbo. Maybe also wrap the brake reservoir etc...

Does anyone know if this tape would actually help to deflect the heat from the underside of the hood?

Thanks

This is what you want:
DEI Thermal Tuning Products 2' x 21" Floor and Tunnel Shield (3.5 square feet) | Hoerr Racing Products
You'll have to look around to find it cheaper.

Go to Home Despot and buy the aluminum bubble wrap and some aluminum HVAC ducting tape. - You'll get the same results at a lower cost.

Tape

(not the exact product I'm speaking of, but gives a cost/quantity (4'x15' roll) for comparison)
Insulation

...wait, found it...

(Then use the extra material to do the same under the carpet at the tranny tunnel...)

Will that Home Depot stuff really hold up under that kind of heat? I don't know that I trust it being inches away from a glowing hot turbo. I think its more meant for much lower temps. I would rather pay more for the DEI stuff. Their header wrap is the shiznit.

any reflective material will reduce the temps from radiation compared to a non-reflective surface. Even wrapping in aluminum foil will reduce transmitted energy.

the benefit of the DEI stuff is that once the surface heats up from convection, it wont transfer to the shielded item because it's got a back layer of fiberglass or whatever.

it may be worthwhile to check if the HD duct tape (for actual ducts) has a high temp adhesive or if it's just low temp acrylic.

i think that is what me and phil have. we just cut it on one side down the middle and opened it up for the brake res.
