Anyone know for certain if the pulley boss froma 97 Kia BP engine is the same as that from the actual Miata? I posted a WTB for a 96+ pulley boss and someone offered one from the Kia engine.

I posted this question over at M.net too, just because it seems like I get more response over there on non-MS questions. Sorry to those that frequent both and read my redundant questions!

I'm using a '97 Kia block in Theseus right now, and I'm pretty sure it came with a misfire-detection wheel like the 96-97 Miata did. I'm 99% sure you're good to go.

Wil your 12 pins triggerwheel fit the long/big-nose 1.6?

Just curious. Why didn't you make a 36-1 wheel? This will give an even higher resolution.

Will the used sensor also fit the 1.6 engine and are you willing to share the part-no.? Is there a specific bracket that should be used?

The wheel was originally designed for the Series 1 AEM EMS, which itself is based on GEMS hardware. It doesn't use anything past 12 teeth to calculate resolution, so nothing past 12 teeth was required. I suspect that the resolution gained by going to 36 teeth from 12 teeth would be minimal.

I do not know about 1.6 compatability. The sensor is not a secret - it's the OEM crank angle sensor from a 1999-2005 Miata. The part number is BP4W-18-221B. It attaches to the oil pump - there will be a small hole with M6x1.0 threads just to the right of the crank pulley. I do not know whether the 1.6 has that threaded hole or not.

Some oil pump housings do not have said hole sav. A friend of mine is borrowing my second op housing because his 1.6 pump lacked the hole. just a heads up.

I wouldn't expect all the housings to have it. The only ones I know for sure are the 1995.5+ pumps.

My 95.5 has the hole but it doesn't appear to be threaded. I will double check, but if I have to tap it, how deep should the threads go / how long is the bolt? I hope to install this thing this week, so any help will be greatly appreciated!

Whatever oil pump I used in my build, which I believe was off a 94 block, has a threaded hole that I bolted a stock crank sensor in. I do not know if it is the correct hole or not, but I have never had an issue with where my crank sensor is.

Maybe I just need to run a pipe cleaner in there or something. Didn't "look" threaded. Now that I know it should be an M6x1, I'll go pick up a couple bolts and just see if they go.

There are definitely pumps that have the hole without threads. Our built motors use Boundary Engineering billet oil pumps, and we have Travis tap the hole in the housing specifically for us.
