A very COPpy Christmas

For those of you who don't want to dick around with finding pins, buying connectors, finding ignitors, scoping junkyards for coils, etc., I may have an intriguing announcement to make in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned.

cueball1 04-29-2008 07:42 PM

1st you tell us about getting your rear end busted, now you tease us with this?!?

"I may have an intriguing announcement to make in the next couple of weeks"

Let me guess, you're moving in with Hustler! :ky:

Come on, really. You're putting together a cops kit. Lot's of us want/ need/ lust over cops. Ballpark money? Need any pre-orders to motivate you to get it done?

Curious, you going to take your rear diff replacement as a chance to run a taller gear ratio?

Trent 04-29-2008 08:03 PM

He has enough for four kits.

I'm interested. :)

johndoe 04-29-2008 08:10 PM

i'm listening.....

airbrush1 04-29-2008 08:12 PM

NB? possibly interested depending on price, fuck it I've got tax return money layin around

kotomile 04-29-2008 08:23 PM

woohoo stimulus check!

I should send you PMz.

y8s 04-29-2008 08:36 PM

you bought a V8 and are gonna do a twin plug conversion!??

wes65 04-29-2008 08:40 PM

if the price was right, i would pay for a plug and play kit.

Zabac 04-29-2008 09:26 PM

Interesting indeed...but I don't see any AL stock to make hold down brackets...send them my way, lol

levnubhin 04-29-2008 09:31 PM

I will deffinately be watching. COP's is one of my next projects. It would be awesome to just buy a PNP kit if the price is right.

Now we know who's been buying up all the damn ebay coils! I've been trying to get a set for 8 weeks now; I always get outbid in the last 5 seconds.

Notion: he scoops 'em all up, causing a shortage, which raises prices.
He then sells pnp kits with a good dose of capitalistic gouging. Great idea, actually.

+1, ive been watchin the coils on ebay.

cueball1 04-30-2008 02:31 AM

Sure, he drops the "ooh, sometime in the future I might... blah blah blah" We all get hot and heavy looking for more info and we don't even get another gratuitous hot young junkyard coil shot out of it.

Tease.

Savington 04-30-2008 04:20 AM

I don't want to say anything more until I have a nice, finished, pretty product to display. Expect an update towards the end of this week. :)

y8s 04-30-2008 10:26 AM

someone's going to make friends with the guys at the aero hangar!

Efini~FC3S 04-30-2008 10:30 AM

Sweet, a PnP cop kit that should be ready about the same time I finally have some friggin liquid funds.

cueball1 04-30-2008 01:00 PM

Damn, I'll have to keep eating Graham crackers to quell those lustful urges til later in the week.

devin mac 04-30-2008 01:05 PM

you douche... you're like a stripper that takes you into a private dance, gets you all worked up, undoes your belt buckle and times it just right so the song ends right after she unzips your fly. then walks the fuck out of the room...

stroke me, dammit!

subscribed.... I am watching this thread closely.

reddroptop 04-30-2008 01:40 PM

I don't see anything PNP for the 94+.

Looks like Sav is going PNP 90-93.

If you have sourced out secret connectors for the 94+ then I think you have piqued the interest of everyone.

If you don't do 94+ I will cry like a girl.

ZX-Tex 04-30-2008 05:49 PM

Make that 99+ compatible, and MS-I compatible.

Put down your pacifier. You think I'd do all of this and not build myself one? ;)

turbobluemiata 04-30-2008 10:28 PM

Id definitely buy!

Savington 05-02-2008 06:27 AM

OK, my initial test last night went well, and the first harness is getting installed in its final home this weekend, so I'll announce this now.

I will be offering a Plug and Play Toyota COP (Coil-On-Plug) setup for the 1990-2000 Miata. I am ready to accept orders for the 90-93 1.6 setups; 1.8 guys, wait about a week for me to build a harness and test it before I start taking orders for those. 96-00 will be after that, probably 2-4 weeks down the line.

Question: What the hell is this product?
Answer: The stock ignition system sucks for boost, so a bunch of people have switched over to a Toyota ignition system. There are a few writeups which will explain it more in detail:

The original COP Thread
Braineack's writeup
SamNavy's writeup

Question: What are the benefits?
Answer: If you're stock? Pretty much nothing, except never having to buy plug wires again. If you're turboed? A bunch of stuff. Many users have reported smoother idle, smoother running, more plug gap (.040 or larger) at high boost (17psi+), all very good stuff.

Question: What does this include? Do I have to solder/wire anything in?
Answer: For the 1.6 guys, no. This includes a pre-wired and gutted ignitor, which means you literally unplug the stock ignitor, plug in the new gutted ignitor, route the wiring harness, bolt the COPs down to the valve cover (a mounting bracket and hardware is included, obviously), attach one ground, and turn the key. No soldering or wiring is required at all.

For the 1.8 guys, I am 99% sure it will be pretty much the same. Nothing is set in stone for the 1.8 yet, so I will mumble more about it when I know more later.

Question: How much does it cost, and when can I pay you?
Answer: $250 shipped in the US. 50% deposit puts your name on the list, which means I start to build your harness and search for your coils. The other 50% is due when your setup is complete, tested, and ready to ship. You can pay all at once as well, doesn't matter to me. My paypal address is: sav -at- jaykidd -dot- com. Please include your forum name in the comments box, as well as what year you have and what ECU/mods you have on your car.

Question: How long will it take?
Answer: I want to underpromise and overdeliver, so I am going to say 4 weeks from deposit to completion. I will keep each individual person updated on the status of their harness, so you'll get a more accurate ETA later on.

Question: I already bought coils, but I would rather have you do the wiring and mounting bracket. Is there any discount available?
Answer: Sure. $80 off. I'd like you to send me your coils so I can test the setup (I plan to test every setup I make before selling it), but if you'd rather save the shipping costs that's fine too. I will test your setup on another set of coils before I send it out.

Any more questions? PM me.

Fireindc 05-02-2008 06:40 AM

Wow, awesome. I see a set of these in my near future..

lemme sell some old parts and Ill get back to you on this

y8s 05-02-2008 10:03 AM

you going to do the dwell reducer circuit for the newer cars? Just asking so someone else doesn't have to.

Zabac 05-02-2008 10:20 AM

wow Sav, that is a very good deal especially since it's including the brackets as well...congrats to anyone that gets in on this, sweet deal. I am curious to see what the 1.8's end up looking like.

cueball1 05-02-2008 10:55 AM

What're the donor cars to look for at the U-pull-it yard?

reddroptop 05-02-2008 11:21 AM

Sav, what is the PNP solution for the 94+ Coilpack connectors? Are you hacking up coilpacks or did you find the connectors.

As far as I can tell from "the thread" that noone found the connector that is needed and the only PNP way it has been done so far is hacking open the connector from a dead/live coilpack.

Vashthestampede 05-02-2008 11:35 AM

This sounds awesome man! Truly plug and play....you weren't kidding.

I need to sell some shit on ebay to get a set from you.

I can, on request. I'd have to figure out what it would cost to get it built.

Hacking up coilpacks is lame, and I haven't found connectors. I am PROBABLY going to supply a replacement engine harness with a Weatherpack connector installed, so you have the option of plugging in the COPs OR the stock coils. I'll then do a core charge for your engine harness so I can hack it up and pass it on to the next guy.

ZX-Tex 05-02-2008 03:41 PM

OK I was wondering why hacking up the stock coil pack was necessary... for the connectors... That is lame.

I hope you can separately source the connectors. If not, maybe at least find a non-sealed connector (same pins, same pin spacing) and either come up with a way to seal it or let the buyer do it. That is how I made the CAS connector for my '99 when I could not find a stock connector. I used a Molex plug from Radio Shack and a lot of electrical tape. It looks crappy, but it seals and it works.
