weak rearend?
ive done some lookin, and apparently, the early miatas diffs are fairly weak.. instead of swapping them out for the rx-7, ect... would welding the diff be any stronger for a short term fix, or make it more prone to breaking?

Its the ring and pinion that strips, not the internals. So no, it wont help at all.
|
preciate it man... im looking to get a 92-93, mainly because seems to be more parts availible, and theyre a lil cheaper. would swapping in the 1.8 solve the problem? i plan to build decent power, and give it hell often??

Yep, OPG is oil pressure gauge. I can't remember if it was 95 or 96 that they switched to the dummy gauge, but either way, you get a real one with a '94. Minor benefit, but all the little benefits add up to make '94 the best year.
Anybody want to guess which year mine is? :-) |
90?

I feel like I need to say this to clear things up. Get a 94.
The Ring and Pinion (R&P) are what usually breaks, which immediately destroys the rest of the differential. If you are building one, shim it to the tight end of spec, or a spec tighter. That will make it less likely to break from shock loads. |

My 93 has those. Don't they all?

'90 to '94 has them, and in '95 they switch to regular full sized ones.

Now that the sun is setting sooner I'm wanting to put those damn visors back in though!

Not that it matters, because a lot of us remove the visors altogether. ;)
That was my very first modification, and I did it about 20 feet into the test drive before I even bought the car. If I put it down, I can't even see the entire hood :bang: |
Gotta admit, I'm actually considering putting my sunvisors back in. I dropped my seat down so low that I wouldn't mind having them again.
That was my first mod  |

My visors don't block my view at all, I actually use them quite regularly. I also use my armrest on the door. My seat isn't all the way back either.
It's nice to fit. |

I used mine this morning..... back the the OP...the reason I say go '94 is: larger displacement larger rear larger brakes larger clutch better bracing real OPG ODB-I |

First mod here too. Hey uh, how did you drop the seat down? New seat, or factory one? Or did you remove foam? I'm all ears.
