webcams and me, but not the webcams paul was thinking about

Picked up a set of webcams 505 for my 1.6 :)

Specs here (second from top)

OEM cam specs here

What do you guys think? Hot or not?

kotomile 12-02-2007 11:42 AM

I thought you were trying to build a 1.8? Or is this for the hail mary run for the 1.6/Greddy?

Ben 12-02-2007 11:53 AM

The cams came up for a good price, and I have to stay ahead of Jerry. :)
From what I read, I need more lift (which these provide).

y8s 12-02-2007 12:18 PM

i was just looking at that same page the other day wondering what they could do for a 2001 head.

paul 12-02-2007 12:20 PM

i was very nervous about opening this thread.

should work out nice, from what i know a turbo likes more lift and not too much duration, so should work out nice. I'm very happy to see someone trying cams on these motors. are you going to be doing anything else in the head?

cjernigan 12-02-2007 01:16 PM

Just saw the ad, you only paid $100 plus shipping for them?

Atlanta93LE 12-02-2007 02:42 PM

Nice grab. If you need help with the install, you know who to call. I'd love to help tear into a head.

Ben 12-02-2007 04:13 PM

Thanks Ben. I'll probably go ahead and pick up a WP, and all the related errata involved to do a full tb job, as long as the timing belt is coming off anyway.

CJ, yeah, figured I could always get my money back out of them. :)

neogenesis2004 12-02-2007 07:19 PM

Should give you a little better top end for sure. Put them in tonight and get a dyno at jerry's tomorrow :)

Ben 12-02-2007 07:29 PM

I don't have them in my hands yet.

I was considering installing the exhaust cam 1 tooth retarded from stock. Thoughts? I don't want to put money into 1.6 cam gears.

neogenesis2004 12-02-2007 07:36 PM

I was under the impression that 1.6 and 1.8 cam gears were the same. I know fidanza only lists one part number, thats what I have. You can get them on ebay for a good price.

Atlanta93LE 12-02-2007 07:40 PM

I've heard you can get limited adjustability by tweaking/drilling the stock gears.

neogenesis2004 12-02-2007 07:41 PM

I'll let you do it first :P

Would you rather advance the exhaust cam 1 tooth to reduce overlap?

Ben 12-03-2007 12:18 AM

Yes, I was thinking backwards. I'd want to advance the exhaust cam 1 tooth.

I'm not finding good info on cam timing. I assume I could reduce overlap the same amount by retarding the intake cam by 1 tooth. Right? What would be the theoretical difference between those two plans?

I'm really going for more midrange torque over more upper end hp.

yaaay, finally here

the engravings in the second pic are hard to see, but they say webcams 505+2 :)

Lift on these puppies is .352
Duration @ .050 is 200/205
Stock cams are lift .309
Duration @ .050 is 192/204

So not a huge change, as these are designed to work with the stock valve train, but the extra 1.1mm lift should help spool.

<edit> aww dammit, the attachments failed because I'm out of space :(
