weird clutch issue

I just came back from school, car was still cold(ish) pulled up to a traffic light and the coolant gauge was just over the C. I tried pulling away when the light went green and the clutch slipped like fuck and the car stalled. It wouldn't start for a minute, but it finally started again. I tried driving off again and the clutch still slips, not as bad as the first time and I managed to get going. The rest of the shifts went perfect, aswell as the next traffic lights.
When I got home, I checked the clutch fluid, level is ok, the clutch slave does not appear to be leaking either.
what the hell is wrong now:vash:

maybe someone stole ur clutch fluid?

Attachment 214598 thank you thank you, im here all night

i have no useful info

Oscar 02-06-2008 12:05 PM

no, had it installed June 21st 2007, at 138000 kms (around 86000 miles), now it's at 144000 kms (roughly 89500 miles), never an issue until now
it engages quite high, ever since it has been installed, engagement has not changed since

urgaynknowit 02-06-2008 12:16 PM

if the problem doesnt continue, then forget it,
if it happens again, try bleeding the system,
maybe theres air somewhere in the lines?

Good luck

Oscar 02-06-2008 12:58 PM

yeah, that's what I thought, but tomorrow I have to work again, and I don't want to have this happen again at an actually busy intersection and get bitched at, so I'm a bit hesitant to drive. I'll check it out in the weekend when I have time

Oscar 02-06-2008 03:45 PM

meh, I'm going to drive it now, see if it happens again. I can't stand this crap :vash:
will report later (if I get back..)

edit: I'm back from a troublefree testdrive, launching at 1200 and 4000 rpm did not cause any problem:confused:

let's hope this doesn't happen again and I can focus on problems with the oncoming MS install:x:

there has been suggested that my pressure plate is f-ed up, or my throw out bearing is giving up, does this sound likely?

Perhaps adjust the pedal height to spec then. Air in the lines, a bad slave, or a bad master would cause the clutch to enguage, not slip. Maybe the high pedal height is a clue. I know as the clutch wears, pedal height is increased, so maybe yours has worns some and since it was high to start with, now the clutch never fully enguages. Try adjusting that pedal to spec and see if that does it. If it's not that, yea, maybe the PP but usually those cause lots of shudder when they warp, so if it's smooth, I'm gonna say it's pedal height.

Oscar 02-06-2008 06:54 PM

I can give that a try tomorrow. What is the spec pedal height, and were should it engage? You don't want it preloading the clutch so it never fully disengages right?

ajtopal 02-06-2008 09:57 PM

My clutch makes a noise like squealing it really weird hopefully it won't start don't what yours did.

323driver 02-08-2008 12:45 AM

Are you sure it's your clutch? when the clutch slips, you usually don't stall so I'm assuming it's something else. Dunno

magnamx-5 02-08-2008 01:10 AM

If you have squeling it means the TOB is not lubed or spinning properly. +1 for bleeding the system just like your brakes as your clutch wears down you get ever more free play in the system this has to be filled by something most likely this will be air/moisture, wich is bad for any hydraulic system i would also try the pivot point a little to see if that helps after you bleed it. GL

Oscar 02-08-2008 04:18 AM

I'll try to adjust the pivot point tomorrow, make it engage a little lower maybe and give it hell, if that doesn't fix it I'll bleed it
it's that, or on the lookout for new clutch :(
