I bought this clutch F1 STAGE 2 CLUTCH KIT& 10LBS FLYWHEEL 89-93 MAZDA MIATA:eBay Motors (item 350224609092 end time Nov-07-09 09:04:03 PST)
Im running 10 pounds and I was in fourth coming home from a long drive of babying it, I put 120 miles on the new clutch kit and I was coming off a ramp, there was a lil opening in the traffic so I punched it while it was in fourth and about 5,500 the clutch slipped, is this common? until fully broken in? or not bleeding did it... but before I left the house this morning I adjusted the pedal to these settings can anyone help please?

First of all, it's an Egay clutch and you get what you pay for. I would know becuase I too run that clutch. I ran it when my car was a dedicated auto-x car and only got driven twice a month.

With my supercharger it never saw more than 5-6 psi and it would never slip. However, it had insane driveline chatter in first gear. I did break it in gently for around 600 miles driving back and forth from school.

Just invest in a real clutch. Trust me, don't penny-pinch on driveline parts that make your car move. I don't know anything about Egay flywheels, so I can't comment on that.

my friend has that same clutch/flywheel in his miata and never had a problem with it

It may be still breaking in. It may have gotten some grease or crap on it when you were installing it making it slip like that. It may just be a bad ebay clutch.

Sounds like it. I've only heard of the stage 3's (puck'd clutch) actually holding power.

^^ Honestly Ive heard nothing but good comments about the stage 3. Now IIRC Tyson is the 240ish whp and is also using the F1 stage 3. However the bearings that come witht the kit are ****.

Thats what I used, the stage 3. It held fine but the engagement is complete horse ****.

I'm sorry, but I love my ACT ZM2-HDSS. It makes me feel happy.

As far as break-in goes, once the plates are engaged, it shouldn't be slipping, even if it's not broken in. I would go with 18psi's idea that there was probably some crap on the flywheel during install. Normally it's a good idea to spray the flywheel down with brake clean once it's on the car, wipe it with clean shop rags, and then put the clutch on.

I had the stage two. and had nasty chatter in reverse. I went ahead for the stage three just to try it out. Its been rock solid for almost 2 years now.

Let the new clutch break in a little longer, Bring it up to temp a few times... dont be too rough, but you gotta get the new disk to mate with the flywheel and pressureplate.

hmm so you didnt bleed the clutch after you installed it, i would try that before you went to far into the car.

That shouldn't be necessary, unless he actually disconnected the slave cylinder from it's line.

true in theory but say he had a working clutch with worn engagement and then he switched to a new thicker clutch the engagement would be alil different and it is a simple sollution than pulling that sucker out or most other fixes. Think about it what would it hurt to try?
