what is this ?

what on earth is this ?

is it to do with Ecu ?
or the est of the cars electrics ?

I am fitting a standalone ecu so dont need half the factory stuff, it looks like something that could control the coils but not sure

its on the left hand side - above where the shock mounts

Please help

Charcoal cannister solenoid, something like that maybe?

It's the igniter for the coil pack - only found on 1.6 cars.

Leave it be otherwise you'll be rather short on sparks :)

magnamx-5 09-10-2007 12:11 PM

bingo it is the ignitor

cjernigan 09-10-2007 12:12 PM

You weird 1.6'rs.

levnubhin 09-10-2007 12:17 PM

Its the ignitor. If you unbolt it from that bracket you can tuck it nicely begind the fuse box out of sight. Thats what I did. It also make for a good anti theft device, I remove it whenever im someone where unfamiliar for long periods.

Think again. Are you going COPs?

cjernigan 09-10-2007 12:40 PM

Planning to use VB92s to fire the coils?

neogenesis2004 09-10-2007 01:04 PM

Sounds like some fun threads to come......

magnamx-5 09-10-2007 01:07 PM

3 bar it is essential to the working of the stock coils. unless you have another provision for coils then leave it where it is.

I moved mine to under the dash (used one of the mounting holes to ty-wrap it to a bracket I found under there. All that charcoal canister stuff can be deleted for some nice engine bay cleanup and weight reduction.

unplug it and see if your car still runs?
