what can i expect with this setup?

hello all

i havnt posted here much i posted my bulid thread ages ago and after last race season have had the car parked but its getting near "that time" to start buliding it again...

long story short last year i blew 3 motors. all of them spun bearings and yes i plastigaged them (spelling) but i have learned my lesson and am going to throw that block into the garbage and use a jdm motor with very very low km's out of my daily driver (40xxx) and run it without a bottom end rebulid, bolt some random bits on that i have and go turbo once again.

my #1 question.
i plan to put my hks cams, adj cam gears, cometic head gasket, and turbo setup (t25) with ms pnp all into my race car and wannna know how much power/ reliablity i can expect vs if i just used a bone stock motor? will these upgrades help? will they allow me to run more boost? (races are 25 mins in length)

my #2 question
im using an acusump oil accumulator with an oil cooler. Along with a turbo will my oil pump need to be upgraded? my old man thinks my oil pump doesnt have enough volume and flow for the accusump, big oil lines, oil cooler, and engine at high rpms and that is why ive been spinning bearings....

any words of wisdom?

thanks a bunch.!

Your motor is only as strong as its weakest point, in this case it sounds like rods. Many agree that they usually aren't very reliable past 250whp. That's with great tuning btw. Anything wrong with the tune and you'll be breaking stuff even sooner than that.

As for reliability at the track: no idea.

another route i could go=

i have a 323 1.6 GTX motor sitting in my garage doing absolutley nothing that i could completley rebulid? and use those pistons and rods with hks cams, cometic head gasket, adj cam gears, and arp head studs?

but ive been told a billion times that the gtx rods and pistons are useless cause the compression is to low

18psi 02-14-2010 06:55 PM

too low? isn't that what you want with a turbo car? lower compression = ability to run more timing and more boost

miata39 02-14-2010 06:57 PM

this is very very true but dont u get more off throttle responce with higher compression/lower boost?

thats just what ive been told/read and it makes a bit of sense

250hp made on a stock engine with more boost is not the same as 250hp made on an engine with cams and less boost, The cams will allow you to get away with more power because its effectively decreasing the compression ratio.
Why is it that a B16 can take 15 psi from a T3/T04 turbo and make 300hp on stock rods that are weaker than ours? Its gotta be the cams.

I bet some mild cams would allow a BP to make a reliable (street) 300hp

PS
street hp != track hp

so what im getting from this is the 323 GTX rods pistons along with the hks camshafts, metal h/g, and arp head studs should make some decent reliable hp?

hmmn

This is on a stock GTX block with a small-ish turbo

blasted chunks!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you for that full tilt boogie!!!!!!!!!!!

it looks liek i got that part figured out....

my goal was around 160 whp that was what i was shooting for, 160 is more than enough for me right now

now i gotta get my oiling system figured out, try find an after market pump maybe

miata39 02-15-2010 12:34 PM

but wait is that from a 1.8 or 1.6???????

because i have a 1.6 GTX motor and all my stuff is 1.6

Full_Tilt_Boogie 02-15-2010 12:43 PM

thats a 1.6

those rods are very strong, i think that dyno was at like 23 psi or soemthing.

You have to realise how extremely conservative the miata community is.
A lot of guys build turbo cars to track them, and under the extreme abuse of tracking a car a stock bottom end wont be able to survive more that maybe 250hp.
So because of this, eeeverybody, inclusing people that will never run on the track think that the limits of the stock engine is 250 hp, which isnt true.
You can make in excess of 300hp on a street car very reliably, and thats on stock miata rods, with stronger GTX or GTR rods and their lower compression pistons you could make even more.

miata39 02-16-2010 02:55 AM

thanks full tilt boogie for the insight!

i may just run a a jdm motor for now and later on rebulid my gtx one for more power

as for my second question:
do people upgrade there miata oil pumps? and is there any way my accusump and oil cooler could of caused my bearings to spin?

thanks
