What color to paint brake calipers?

Im thinking of ricing my car just a little bit. I am having a hard time deciding on the color.

Car is green.

Edit: Damnit, I forgot to add "Leave as is" as one of the poll options.

hustler 10-04-2008 12:16 PM

black

samnavy 10-04-2008 12:23 PM

Other than black=GHEY.

Painting the calipers? Just because I suppose? Yea, anything other than how they are or black is just fucking stupid. Especially if your car is green.....

If your looking for rice, i think red is sick. But I would go with black on my car for a more clean look, i think silver might be a bit flashy. Keep in mind black wont really ever really "look" dirty compared to say red.

cueball1 10-04-2008 01:25 PM

Neon brite green.

Makes sense on a green car, but im not into full blow rice.

Savington 10-04-2008 01:53 PM

If caliper paint will stick to your brakes, you drive like a pussy.

944obscene 10-04-2008 02:23 PM

A Gold-ish Bronze. Like on the Brembos that the G35 has. And Gold or Bronze (or the mix thereof) goes good with Green.

yeah, only they're not brembos and anyone who shows off calipers is posting on the wrong forum, homosexual, HIV positive, and most likely a child molester.

y8s 10-04-2008 02:58 PM

oh hai, didn't you just start a "why asians rice their cars" thread?

Good thing I don't show off my calipers... lol

I didn't say chrome did I? Painting them does TWO things. It helps inhibit corrosion from the elements (unless you track-race the thing, then the paint burns off) and second it keeps them looking good longer. I don't see it any different than painting the valve cover, or polishing engine parts, or putting a picture of a Pirate Miata as an Avatar... :)

We all have our own taste.

Scuba_Steve 10-04-2008 04:42 PM

Gray or charcoal. It blends in better than black.

black and silver are fine, any other color is gayer than me.

I painted mine a dark bronze. They had that corroded gray color going on, and it was ugly. I don't care if it's rice or gay, I think it looks a lot better than it did. I think bronze would look really good with your green.

This is what I'm talking about. I don't think its "Showey". It just looks nice, and from a distance, it would compliment the color of the car. IMHO...

Gold or Black...

Saml01 10-04-2008 08:35 PM

Black it is.

Fireindc 10-04-2008 08:58 PM

Lol, threads like this are way better with hustler back.

Id paint mine black, but seriously any other color is fucking gay.

Oh wow look at my sick tiny stock calipers, i bought the paint at autozone.

disturbedfan121 10-04-2008 10:32 PM

body color usually looks pretty nice. IMO black car=black paint, red car=red paint.

tho if you're 23c=still ghey no matter what

DontPassTheFence 10-04-2008 11:13 PM

oh ho, hustler is back ^_^

posidon42 10-04-2008 11:28 PM

My 99 has them black right now but I bought the sport brakes off a 01 and I am painting them silver. I have the 01 LS rims and the color match is pretty good so far. Still don't have them on the car yet, only have two of the four calipers done, but all of the rotors are done.

disturbedfan121 10-05-2008 01:26 AM

you painted your rotors????

cueball1 10-05-2008 03:03 PM

My brite green comment was actually smartass. Sorry.

If you're going to paint them I'd go for the dark bronze. Red is too poser, black too plain, any bright color too ricey. Bronze would look clean and tougher without being tacky.

Last time I put new rotors on I painted the hub areas, the outside edges and basically anything not swept by the pads to keep the rust down. Yeah I know rust is all manly but I drive a Miata. How manly can it get. I'd rather have it clean looking.

Fireindc 10-05-2008 03:09 PM

Pink calipers ftw, imo.

AlexandertheOk 10-05-2008 04:48 PM

black for the win!

naarleven 10-05-2008 04:52 PM

BBK or die

No painting of stock calipers unless its black imho.

KPLAFIN 10-05-2008 05:01 PM

Painting stock calipers is usually pretty gay in my opinion. I had to grind my 1.8 calipers down to get my 13" Panasports over them though, so once they started to get the rust look going on I painted them black.

I believe the epic decision has been made...;)

Next post should be pics of aid black calipers on green car

PS--koto u said it not me :greddy: lol
Those look good tho...of course its no surprise they say gays have good taste....:giggle:

Saml01 10-05-2008 10:59 PM

I just cant bring myself to order the paint kit. They are brakes for gods sakes. 36 dollars to paint calipers to a non factory color is just so bleh. Even black, I mean shit they never came black on the car, ever, so why. How often does anyone even look at brakes. I don't. I couldnt care less what they look like, just how they stop.

I'd do what Koto did and return them back to the factory silver.

Who here actually has painted there calipers?

Fwiw, I voted silver in the poll.

They look great koto, if I were to paint mine they would def be silver or black. Though honestly the bronze didn't look bad either.

TonyV 10-06-2008 11:38 PM

^hehe

Sam, what u doing man? Just go to Discount and get a can or 2 of the caliper paint. If you clean them up it'll work fine... Used it on 2 cars so far. No track time obviously.

Toddcod 10-07-2008 08:49 AM

Silver or something gold.

Machismo 10-07-2008 09:18 AM

My caliper paint has held up surprisingly well even after some abusive track sessions. Boiled the fluid and warped a rotor at Hallett, but calipers cleaned right up with no flaking.

Stein 10-07-2008 09:42 AM

I voted leave as-is, but that's just the way I am.

I have a Ferrari 348 that I painted the calipers yellow, then I used a dupont clear and added sparkle flakes to it. came out real nice. although in the photo its hard to see the sparkles they only show up during the day. This is how I plan on painting the ones on my miata.
