What did I get myself into?

Wiretucking the Miata now, just a little teaser of the work in progress.

Started like this, which was already mildly cleaned up from stock a few months ago, but my goal is to get rid of all the wires that run next to the valve cover/intake manifold. Starting with reversing the injector harness so that it exits out the back instead of next to the throttle body.

As of 5 minutes ago.

Also, anyone know what this guy is? I believe it is the EGR valve, and if so I am ripping it out as I don't need it.

Nicely done...

Time investment?

I can't tell what you did and have no idea how the "normal" Miata wire-tuck works. Can you take some more close-ups to show exactly where the wires go now?

i need some of that action. I need it...bad:

Thanks, about six hours, but that includes many breaks and distractions. Could probably do it again in under three.

I also have no idea how a normal wire tuck goes, and I just made it up as I went.

Firstly, if you look in the before picture all those wires that run between the valve cover and intake manifold, they are coil harness (yes it runs all the way to the front only to run all the way back), fuel injector harness, grounds, IAC, TPS, cam position, crank position, IAT, MAF, and misc others that I cannot remember.

Due to using MS1 in standalone config with a NA CAS, most of these wires were cut. Also all emissions items were removed like the EGR and charcoal canister.

The fuel injector harness was reversed so the connector came out at the back of the motor, and the ignition harness was shortened so that it just passed through the firewall and went straight to the coilpack. Also all the wires that still had to go to the front of the motor, like the TPS, grounds, and IAC were run along the injector harness so they are hidden by the upper intake manifold.

Nicely done.

I just recently cleaned up the wiring on either side of the engine getting a lot of it tucked up under the fenders. No pics yet.

I like the wire tuck of that area. A write up or more details would be helpful.

Did it require splicing, cutting, etc?
Any troubles or observations?
Etc...

Oh yeah, I also did that a few months ago.

I had to cut and shorten quite a few wires, but none had to be lengthened.

Really, I'm not sure how you would do a write up, as when you get in there you kinda just start cutting away.

Ok, I took some pictures to try and show what I did better.

You can see that no wires are on top of the intake now, and the engine bay to the left and right of the motor is mostly bare.

The stock harness comes out and divides here, next to the rear engine hoist point.

Here you can see where the wires that had to run to the front of the motor come out, under the upper intake manifold.

I still need to make a block off plate for the cam angle sensor hole, but it should all look pretty good when finished.

Good job man, I've been wanting to get this done as well. I cleaned the engine bay and tucked a few wires under the upper intake and under the fenders, but my stock loom is still exposed and is looking rather ugly.
