Snowboard rack
I need a way to bring the longboards out on nights when the hardtop is on. They are too big to fit anywhere inside the car (also due to rollbar) or the trunk.
Do any of you guys have a snowboard rack for your hardtop? Or has anyone every seen them for sale anywhere?
Going to do some searching now, but nothing came up here when I just did.
Is this more of a m.net question? lol

So after I just wrote that I figured wtf, why not search m.net. lol
Found some info and a picture.
And this thread - http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread...ight=roof+rack
I really don't want a monster on the car, just something to do the job.
Also found this on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Ratsback made one? http://treybay.com/RB_RoofRacks.htm

that's the style kayak I want...and to think that I could take the miata on a kayak/road trip is awesome. Half way between a playboat and cruiser yak.

I would have never even thought about taking the miata on a snowboarding trip, its terrifying enough to have to climb through icy canyon roads in my integra.
However, for longboarding why the **** not!

When we went snowboarding we took a bike rack and strapped the boards down to the rack good and tight! Mine is the type that straps to the trunk and bumper, however I think the best kind is one that hooks into a hitch then you could make your own custom board rack to attatch the the tow package or buy a tow package bike rack and strap them down to that.

I was thinking about maybe using this in conjunction with the ebay rack I linked above.

Also found this off m.net. I dont like it at all, although it is pretty interesting.
I like the idea of having a tow hitch type setup made. I would just have to look more into what it would take to make it. I remember seeing the whale tail tire holder before and it looked pretty cool. So something like that to hold the boards would be straight.
lordrigamus - Although I'm hurt it wont keep me off the board for long. I just need to get me a ******* helmet to keep myself alive. lol

Take a look at this...
http://www.alpineaccessories.com/pro...-WM&variation=
Window mount ski rack....
I actually have a pair of these... they worked great for two sets of ski's. on the front door, most the time you could open the door, they would hang there and you can manuver around the skiis. ( i did use on a VW)> but wouldnt really be a problem i woul see with the MIATA. They might be close together when on the glass.
I would think, with some craftyness. you could remove the upper ski mount. only use the bottom mount. and sanwich the two boards together . use bungees, and they would hang. My set seem to mount a little lower on the glass.
I have not used my rack in YEARS... i would like to sell actually.
25$ Ill ship it to ya... I can send pictures later today of my actual racker if you want. On car etc.
Hit me with A PM if intrested.

I guess the question is, do you want to trust your boards and your paint to a pair of suction cups that might let go. And with the hardtop on you won't be able to use the frankenstein bolts.
Post number two is the win I think. Non-marring and no chance it will let go.

Post 2 is the win for sure, but requires more $$$ up front in parts I can't make. I had an idea for the suction cup widget (and would stick the cups to the windshield, not the frame). My idea was that if those cups can hold a camera at 150mph, two of them should hold one or two snowboards. I don't think they'd create that much lift or anything.
It winds up being a moot point, however, as I'm going to just cram them inside on top of my girlfriend :P
