Default Replacing temp gauge in cluster with aftermarket?

Anyone ever try replacing the gauges in the cluster with aftermarket ones? I'd like to replace my temp gauge. I mean it should be easy enough, the temp gauge does come out separately I noticed (it's available separately in the parts catalog) but I think the trick is going to be finding a gauge that'll fit in the hole. Anyone have any success with this?

look at my build thread. If you have a gauge, and a dremel, you're more than half way there.

Looks awesome. I'm having trouble reading it. What gauge is that? What size too?

Also, did the threads for the aftermarket sensor match the port in the head where the stock sender goes? Thanks.

I forget if hustler did the same, but I'm following chriscar's route with the Vision VDO mechanical.

The one I have on the shelf has a huge threaded section that definitely won't fit in the dash sensor bung, and it's probably standard thread to boot.

Hell, mine's been sitting forever and still not installed, let me know if you want it.

Ok now it looks scary. At least having to rebridge those traces does at the very least.

Here's the best thread to use for information. It has links to several other threads about water gauge swaps.
