What kind of DIY stuff have you done?

As far as custom fabrication, custom interior stuff, custom exterior work, ect. Anything that cant be bought.

The favorite thing Ive done so far that was home brewed was my truck bed liner door sills. Cant say Ive seen another like it. I wish I had gome with a higher quality stuff though, its beginning to get scuffed up over the last 6 months or so. Not like it cant be redone cheaply and easily. I didnt feel like spending the money for aftermarket, or factory plastic/aluminum that would just get scratched up anyway. Plus I needed to cover up my scuffed up ugly paint on the sills.

I masked it off, scuffed up the paint with some 320 grit, then wiped it down with thinner, and sprayed on the liner. Took only an hour or so to do both sides.

Thought posting up some of our best DIY stuff would give some people ideas. Nothing beats the feeling of doing it yourself, then standing back and looking at the good job.

Door panels/interior trim recover, intercooler piping, WG can bracket, seat foam mod, and I'll go ahead and count mounting the UEGO gauge in the dash, because it's so big and was a pain.

johndoe 12-24-2008 10:46 AM

tinting and adding LEDs to ebay clear front turn signals, shrouding intercooler and rad. COPs harness?

Not exactly DIY, but Im too happy to not share. My Katzkin seats and door panels just came in, as well as my Redlinegoods boots from a few days ago. They match pretty well and should look good in my classic red.
Will start to install them asap, when Im not working on the block and head.

This is what $800 of leather looks like...

Quality is better than I thought they would be. Should be a super nice addition. Cant wait. I also bought some vinyl roll bar padding/covers from Boss Frog, I might try to do some red stitching on them to match.

leatherface24 12-24-2008 03:20 PM

those are stupid nice^^^

NA6C-Guy 12-24-2008 03:26 PM

I know, arent they though. I cant wait to get them installed. Now If I can just find some diamond stitched vinyl for the tunnel, and do my custom center console, my interior will be complete! God I love christmas, even if I did buy all of my own gifts and have spent WAY too much on myself this holiday. Lets see... like $2k so far over the last few weeks. ;) Im broke, but at least I have parts!

Also my manifold is a diy JGS style, no pics on this computer though.

My intercooler pipes are also DIY but they are ghetto and not worth photographing.

Finally is my hood which has a diy functional vent, again no pics but it's exactly like levnubhin's.

musanovic 12-24-2008 11:40 PM

man sick seat covers very nice and that under tray is sexy. guess i'll make it my next project. my is all true DIY.

Wicked looking as always! That old w/a intercooler looked pretty cool. DIY is the way to do it though. Its one thing to buy all of the parts and install them, but its another to make the parts and install them.

DIY... 1/4 of the way done on my seats. Its my first time, so they arent perfect, but looks good enough to make me happy. Plus the bolsters will probably settle and move a bit and loosen themselves up and allign themselves. The headrest looks funky because it doesnt have any speakers and the plastic cover is bent from a year of speakers too big to fit in them. So the only issue is the wrinkles above the bolster. Took about hours to do that one, so the other 3/4 should go much faster now that I have a plan. I used zip ties also, no hog rings for me, Ive dealt with those things enough.

Looks good! What are you going to do with the old cloth covers? If they all look as good as that one I'm interested in buying them from you.
