What is my 2001 Miata worth?
It all started when my father bought an MR2 Spyder earlier this week. I've REALLY liked them for a long time, but I made the mistake of putting my 12lb 15x8 wheels with Advan AD08R tires on the MR2.. and now I want one for my own. So I was wondering what would be a good price to list my car for? This is not a for sale ad, I have no idea when I would sell my car. Specs below
Located in Central TX.
The car does have some clear coat peeling, there is an oil leak (I think the oilpan may not be properly sealed), and the hardtop is vinyl wrap. Those are pretty much the only cons I can think of. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1453050374 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1453050374 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1453050374 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1453050374 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1453050374 Thanks for any estimates! |
Nice car. 6-7k. 6 out here in socal. likely 7k in other less flooded markets.

I agree, I think that's fair pricing.

Yeah depending on location 6-7 would be my guess too

Good looking car. More people should do black hardtops with black windshield surrounds. I'm definitely doing mine that way when I paint my car later this year.
Assuming the car is rust-free (rear quarter panels, rocker panel, above front sway bar mounts), I'd agree with everyone else so far, $6-7k. If I were to do it all over again, I would travel to somewhere like TX to find one without any damn rust... |
Thanks guys, eh, I think I'll just keep it then. I've probably put that money alone into restoring the car.

Come to Texas to buy a car, the only rust you'll find on this car is on the brake rotors! |

Most Miatas in areas with real winter were bought as second/third cars and are stored over the winter. As a consequence, they're fair-weather cars that usually don't see very hard lives. There are exceptions, but they're usually easy to spot by taking a glance underneath the car. My undercarriage looks similar to what a 1-2 year-old car typically does up here. Kids are starting to pick up on the older, beaten-up ones (and ruin them), but typically they're owned by older guys, maintained well, and driven gently. There's a subset who tracks them, but as a percentage, it's a small segment. The only downside is that the rust belt tends to be a more expensive market to buy Miatas, although at $6-7k, you could probably find something similar to OP's. With the current exchange rate, you may actually see decent deals north of the border, too. |
