What parts?

I have a 97 that I am going to sell soon but would like to swap out any parts that I need for my 90. Its going to be a turbo car. I figure I need the rear end and brakes.

1. Can I just swap the parts from one to another?
2. Should I just take the whole suspension a arms and all and swap?
3. Anything else you would swap?
4. Whats the easiest way to go about this?

Swap the entire rear assembly, easiest way of doing it. Swap the front brakes as well.
Might as well just swap the entire drivetrain while you're at it, get rid of that shortnose 1.6. :)

i feel sorry for whoever ends up with that 97, lol
but yeah, brakes and rear...motot would be a bit too much

MX5-4me 01-22-2008 09:58 AM

is he going to need the drive shaft too?

Zabac 01-22-2008 10:00 AM

yeah, and axles

cardriverx 01-22-2008 11:20 AM

haha yeah, sucks for the buyer of that car.

I'd make damn sure the buyer knows exactly what they're getting. If I bought a '95 and found later it had a '90 drivetrain... I'd be more than pissed. I'd think there might be grounds for legal action (false representaion) or something if you didn't disclose what you'd done.

If you wish to swap the motor over, then purchase the FM swap kit to make things really easy. It comes with a couple brackets and a wiring harness extension for the CAS as it's on the exhaust lobe in 1.8's.

1.6 and 1.8 clutches are interchangeable as long as you also swap the flywheel. Transmissions are the same.

Just swap the entire motor and drivetrain and sell it as a eurospec car. Heck even some '99s came with a 1.6. :)

It has no motor or trans....parts car
But even if it did have that stuff I dont think anyone is obligated to say anything. The car would run as usual. It would only really matter to a person who intended to track the car. If you rebuild a motor with a Protege block are you obligated to tell them?

Ok what if the ring and pinion gear went out on it.. how would the new owner know to get the gear set from a 90-93?

What happens when it's time for a brake job?

Block is a different matter as it's not a wear item.

Braineack 01-22-2008 02:09 PM

just list it as a "custom" rear for better gearing.
