I am trying to put get together the parts for my new rear end and need this frikken thing but I don't know what it is called. Also, are they the same for all years? I have an 03. Annnd does anyone have one they want to sell me? :makeout:

Splitime 05-11-2010 09:44 AM

I want to say its the carrier.

But now I'm not sure.... dammit...

ArtieParty 05-11-2010 09:48 AM

Um.... that's the differential itself.

gospeed81 05-11-2010 09:50 AM

Carrier is the thing with wings that attaches the diff to frame.

Where ever the gears are, it's called the differential...

what's inside that is the differential...

The differenital allows each of the driving to rotate at different speeds..how is a big chuck of cast iron going to do that?

:fawk:

pinion housing

Braineack 05-11-2010 12:13 PM

i think carrier or differential/pinion housing are both acceptable.

jedduh01 05-11-2010 12:16 PM

Savington 05-11-2010 03:01 PM

Third member, pinion housing, diff carrier, diff housing. All "correct".

jayc72 05-11-2010 03:06 PM

What's a "pumpkin"?

In the picture the differential is still circled, and they are usually sold/shipped as a unit.

Braineack 05-11-2010 03:32 PM

yeah yeah yeah, this is what happens when a bunch of n00bs post on the internet.

Never heard this one before. I love it!

Hate it when junkyards refer to the diff assembly as the third member. Maybe on an American V8, but the damn thing isn't a member at all on an IRS car.
