What's the deal with motor mounts?!?!?
 

When I swapped my 1.8 engine the old mounts where torn in two. Obviously very unsafe. So now I swapped the engine and it had fresh motormounts with it. BUUUT I was under the car the other day and the driver's side mount is "tearing". :crx: Anyway, am I doing something wrong? Is there an issue with motor mounts in general? The engine is NON-TURBO. Not a whole lot of torque going on here. Anyone have an suggestions on a stiffer/meatier motor mount?

Mazdaspeed if you drive the car on a regular basis, MMRs if it's an outrageous weekend toy. Stock mounts suck.

I wish there was a middle ground, MSs are still pretty soft and MMRs are basically solid! I had MMRs for about 3 weeks in my Miata (which is a DD) and found someone to trade me for MSs. MMR engine mounts are ridiculous.

MMR is good but not so friendly for DD. Listen to Savington's advice

By MS, are your guys referring to MazdaSpeed? I'm pretty sure the MSMs got the same mounts as everybody else. There's no obvious distinction in the Collision Guide that says otherwise, though I don't have a full '04-'05 parts catalog at hand.

Or are we talking about MC, as in MazdaComp P/N NAY1-39-040? I personally found the MC mounts to be notably stiffer than my un-torn stock mounts, yet entirely livable in my daily driver.

MMR's mounts are the only way to fly for me. Doesn't matter what you do with your car. While your there do the diff mounts too.

Gotcha. I wish people would stop calling them MS / MSM parts. Pretty sure no such thing exists.

As for the MazdaComp mounts insofar as NVH is concerned, you notice it the first time you start the car after making the change, and then it just goes away and never bothers you again. Seriously, they are by no means solid mounts, and anyone who says otherwise has never driven a car with solid mounts in it. I'd consider them perfectly suitable for any spirited daily driver.

If you want solid mounts then billet is the only way to go! Little $$ though!

Last I heard,ES was in the developing stages of making polyurethane motor mounts for the miata.

I guess they must have abandoned the project,cause no one has heard of anything for a while now.

I also agree about the MC mounts, I love them.

Sooo if I were to do the billet mounts why can't I just weld it straight to the frame? I had a friend do that to a subaru STI and he gained a noticeable amount of torque.

Oh and on the comment about the diff bushings.. when i acquired the car someone had done an rx7 diff swap. Anyone know if the bushings are different from miata to rx7?

I seem to remember a thread either here or elsewhere of someone putting in one MMR mount and one MS mount. The MMR on passenger side and the MS on the driver. It provided a best of both worlds sort of response. It was stiffer that MS only but didn't rattle your teeth like MMR only. Seems like a good idea to me and im probably going to be doing it soon. My stock mounts are all over the place. Any one interested in buying my second MMR mount to do the same when I get them?

Despite my rear view shaking on my etc i like my mmr mounts they are solid and the shit does not shift around on my but hell im not one of those wine and cheesers that worrys about comfort to much, just fast and well faster still. :magna:

I've had the MMR's before as well Magna. I totally agree on them being amazing at controlling engine torquing. They improved throttle response unlike anything I have ever seen. When you give it gas the car just goes immediately.

My biggest complaint was the shaking at idle. Which I guess is to be expected. I'm no wine and cheeser by any stretch. For a car I was planning to drive around often though in city traffic about 50% it would have been just too uncomfortable. I plan on trying the 50/50 MS and MMR mount.

Argh. Link to the MMRs please. I don't like my gear shifter moving around because the passengers see it and think my car is broken.

I searched the interweb and I can't find these MMRs you people speak of.
