Whats YOUR miata worth

If you were to sell your car how much would you ask for it and why?

KPLAFIN 10-03-2008 01:06 AM

I think I speak for most people on this site when I say:

"A lot more than it's worth simply because I don't really want to get rid of it."

DontPassTheFence 10-03-2008 01:11 AM

I owe like 10k on it, so I hope its worth more than that >.>;

Id never sell it though.

borkap 10-03-2008 01:13 AM

well its probably pretty transparent that I am thinking of selling mine so i was trying to gauge what to ask.

Fireindc 10-03-2008 01:18 AM

You could make a thread with pictures and a description so we could help you..

id ask at least double what I got it for simply because I got it for a retardedly good price:)

your is nice though, even if im not a fan of the yellow

cardriverx 10-03-2008 01:48 AM

I say without hardtop its worth in the 5-6k range, then a extra 600 to 1k for the hardtop depending on condition.

naarleven 10-03-2008 02:38 AM

strip it part it out.

Sell it as stock. You'll make tons more moneyies then.

Fireindc 10-03-2008 02:56 AM

As is: 5.5-6k, parted out you could get more.

Well sorted car you have there.

KPLAFIN 10-03-2008 03:17 AM

Am I the only one under the impression this thread was started to find out what everyone else though THEIR car was worth? I didn't pick up the part where he was trying to price out his car specifically but that definitely seems to be what he was looking for now. :dunno:

Savington 10-03-2008 06:35 AM

Modified cars have to be *flawless* in order to fetch big bucks. I would probably ask $10k for my car if I were to ever sell it, after I fixed the following:
-PDR driver's fender, new front/rear bumper skins, repaint hood/fenders/nose/hardtop
-new gauge hood
-new exhaust tip
-full detail

Probably $14k if I were to part out. I have more than that into it and I will probably never sell.

+1

It would take a special car to kick the Miata out of my garage.

borkap 10-03-2008 09:11 AM

I dont want to sell it but I am in a bind and need the money. I am paying for a house I dont live in....

samnavy 10-03-2008 09:21 AM

Mine is for sale in the Classifieds right now at $5500. Your parts "extensiveness" is about the same as mine, but it looks like you spent some more money.

The economy is in the shitter right now and winter is coming up fast... I haven't had a single hint of interest.

I'll probably end up shipping mine back to San Diego when I move there in December and parting the turbo stuff, keeping the swappable pieces for my NB build, and selling the OEM stuff to a guy who specializes in Miata parting there.

Your best bet for maximum return is to part it. I've learned one valuable lesson during the 2 years I've been building my '93... don't ever throw away any stock pieces you remove. Store and keep to return to stock. I wish I had.

borkap 10-03-2008 09:27 AM

I would love to have the time and space to do it but I am in an apt now and dont really have access to a garage like my house.

y8s 10-03-2008 09:59 AM

$15,000 if I wanted to sell it. and the economy was fundamentally sound.

$18,000 to convince me to sell it. :D

TurboTim 10-03-2008 10:06 AM

I would probably sell mine for around $7000. That's probably what I'd get if I sold the expensive things seperately and the shell for like $2000.

borkap 10-03-2008 10:08 AM

I was thikning 7K before but now that the nose is damaged I am thinking 6K. I need it to actually sell.

patsmx5 10-03-2008 10:15 AM

Seriously. Pull what you can pull in a couple hours. Put the stock wheels on it. Remove any fancy braces you had. Pull the cold air intake. Pull anything that can easily be removed and the car could be sold without it. Put said items for sale for good price so they sell quick. You will make more money.

99NBMia 10-03-2008 11:02 AM

I'm thinking of selling mine for liek 8-9K because I will be going up north to do CHP

miatamania 10-03-2008 11:24 AM

Just give me the 1.8 motor and we'll swap in my 130k mile 1.6 and some cash ;)

That is a pretty well known car in this area, do you have it posted up anywhere?

Saml01 10-03-2008 11:29 AM

My miata isnt worth anything to me because whether I sell it or not wont effect my financial situation. So no matter what im keeping it.

bryantaylor 10-03-2008 11:54 AM

mine has no a/c or p/s, solid motor mounts, and is completly gutted, no matter what i ask for mine, i highly houbt anyone will buy it.

y8s 10-03-2008 12:10 PM

ok I'll go down to 17,5K. car is daily driveable and solid. all creature comforts intact. spare wheels, short block, head, and parts to build them into awesomeness. woooo.

johndoe 10-03-2008 12:24 PM

I'd remove my hardtop and wheels and sell those seperately for a grand each and ask 7k for the car itself. I'd be too lazy to part it.

borkap 10-03-2008 12:36 PM

No I haven't posted it up yet. I wanted to see what the masses thought it was worth. Thanks for the acknowledgment, I havent been able to keep up with it since we moved.

jwarriner 10-03-2008 12:59 PM

Never more than Bluebook for its mileage and condition. Sorry, but it's true. I can't stress this enough. People would like to think their car is worth the value of the car plus modifications but this is almost never the case.

There is only one type of person that can buy a modified car for more than Bluebook and that's a cash buyer- banks will only loan a max of 125% of Edmunds or Bluebook, and that's with really good credit. With the current financial crisis they're going to be even more strict about who they lend to and what percentage of the value they lend. I wouldn't be surprised if they begin only lending a max of 75% of a car's value on cars that are less than three years old.

So now that we know you need a cash buyer, we're talking about a certain kind of fool that buys something that's almost impossible to resell for the same price. Meaning they really have to want not only a modified Miata, they really have to want YOUR modified Miata. Color, the specific mods, the condition- the buyer is not going to settle for anything less than exactly what they want if they're plunking down a large sum of cash on something that in reality is worth a lot less. This limits you to very few people in the world.

The other type of person is even rarer- someone who happens to just see your car for sale, falls in love and also happens to have cash to burn. This happens on old muscle cars a lot but the Miata is not quite classic enough and is still seen as totally fucking homosexual to many people, unfortunately. Don't expect middle aged men having a mid-life to decide they want your fucked to death 1990 turbo Miata for $10,000.

This is why so many people part out their cars.

m2cupcar 10-03-2008 02:19 PM

borkap- that looks like a rougher version of enthuza chad's car...?

Wow good spot! Same car, rebuilt a few times but the same car.

hustler 10-03-2008 02:41 PM

how much?

...more than you can afford, pal.

your car would probably be worth more if you took the poseur wheels off.

wow........

Please god, I hope you didnt breed.

PM me and I'll clear you all up.

Zabac 10-03-2008 03:38 PM

pat, your car is definitely worth $7k, the hard part is finding the buyer willing to pay it.

id start by placing craigslist ads in all major metros around us and also in the classifieds on all the miata and local forums.

hate to see you sell it man
just get a part time job, or become a hooker

Faeflora 10-03-2008 03:44 PM

I bought my '03 in 2004 with 13K miles for $16,000. Since then I've put about that much more into it... BEGI S5 $5K, Hydra $2.5K, Exhaust $1K, clutch $1K, shocks/springs $1K, wheels/tires $2K, rollbar etc.... No average Joe will want my car or care about the turbo etc. I DD it and it's fine and reliable but I seriously doubt I could get more than mid price blue book. I once tried to sell my car when it was stock and my best offer was $13K and it was in PERFECT shape then. There's a billion miatas out there and to most people, you'rs ain't special :`(

BenR 10-03-2008 05:02 PM

I think the current insurance value is about $500.

prog_rawk 10-03-2008 05:21 PM

Yes, its always depressing to try to figure out how much your modded miata is worth on the market... its bearable if you part it out... just borrow a friend's garage?

borkap 10-03-2008 06:27 PM

any "friends" live int Charlotte NC?

disturbedfan121 10-03-2008 07:25 PM

you could sell yourself to 50 fat chicks for a 1000$ each. or a 1000 fat chicks for 50$ each.......what? fat girls need love to....they just gotta pay.

Doppelgänger 10-04-2008 10:01 AM

I sold my 99 that was well modd'ed -

JRSC
intercooler
rollbar
nice suspension
big radiator
KG short shifter
nice custom gauges
new cd player and speakers
upgraded tail lights (01+)
4.10 Torsen
new clutch
new ANSA exhaust
new engine (was planning on going turbo so i wanted a fresh engine)
rebuilt head
tons of other things im forgetting.

I sold the car with 100k for $7,000. I probably could have held out and gotten $8k, but i needed to make the sale.

borkap 10-04-2008 02:59 PM

Ok so if anyone can sell mine for me I'll give you 500 bucks. Price tag is 6500.

I would never sell my miata (I'd like to think that), and if I did I would want way more than I'd ever get for it as is. I doubt I would ever part it out and put it back to stock. In my last serious relationship I was planning on giving it to my gf when I moved on to the next project. Good thing we never got to that point!

yeah, I went into buying up things for mine planning on keeping the car for the rest of my life.

cueball1 10-05-2008 02:55 PM

+1 for Johndoe's accessment. Sell of the extra wheels. Sell the Hardtop. Swap back in anything you can do easily for items that have more value off the car that won't hurt performance. That should get you $1500-2000 right there. Now sell the car for around 6k and you're golden.

I dont know what its worth, but I know the motor cost more than I paid for the car, lol

borkap 10-06-2008 10:24 AM

Jag motor?

Brainsboy 10-06-2008 10:38 AM

Yeah although not much of it is jag anymore.

jwarriner 10-06-2008 11:14 AM

That's crazy.
